Chinese seawater desalination membranes by 2015
The Chinese government recently granted Yuan 7.8 million (US$ 1.3 million) to Quindao Hua Xuan Water Company for a seawater desalination equipment production line, China's first, according to a report in China Daily.
Upon completion in 2015, the project will help reduce the country's dependence on imported reverse-osmosis membranes. Chen Chuanhao, chief engineer of Hua Xuan, said, "the high quality osmosis membranes we develop break the foreign monopoly and will be widely used in mass production."
