지하수 서비스 제공업체인 Hibbard Inshore사(미시간(Michigan) 소재 기업)는 3,756MW 규모의 스노이 산맥(Snowy Mountains: 오스트레일리아 남동부, 오스트레일리아 알프스의 일부) 수력발전소에 대한 또 다른 관찰과 검사를 완료하였다.

그들은 작은 운송수단을 사용하여 스노이 산맥 수력발전소의 잠재력을 보다 명확하게 측정하여왔다.

이러한 최신의 원거리 자동차를 사용하고 있는 사브(SAAB) Sabertooth의 Hibbard Inshore사는 왕복 24킬로미터(km)를 초과하는 터널(tunnel)을 통해 유일한 방향에서 12킬로미터 이상을 횡단할 수 있었다.

이러한 무인수중잠수정(ROV: remotely operated vehicle)은 가시적인 데이터(data)를 수집할 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라, 고밀도 차원 데이터를 얻기 위해 다양한 형태의 멀티빔 수중 음파 탐지기(multibeam sonar)로 앞서 언급한 터널을 스캔(scan)하고자 할 것이다.

 

Hibbard Inshore사는 균열과 구멍, 잔해 강화, 파손, 그리고 암석붕괴(또는 낙석) 등을 탐지할 수 있다고 말하였다. 그러고 나서 수집된 데이터는 분석 및 유지보수를 목적으로 3차원 모델(three-dimensional models)을 만들기 위해 사용되었다.

Hibbard Inshore사는 이미 스노이 산맥에 있는 여섯 개의 터널(산을 넘어가는 터널임)을 분석하여왔다. 그들은 Sabertooth 기술을 사용하여 이 곳의 터널 분석과 수력발전설비를 건설하고자 한다. 그리고 그들은 2014년 더 많은 관측과 분석을 다시 실시하게 될 것이다.

또는 앞서 언급한 터널을 청소하는데 도움을 줄 것이다. 이러한 수백만 달러의 투자는 이러한 비즈니스(business)를 위해 사람들과 계약자들의 안전을 위한 엄청난 결과를 낳고 있다. 그리고 이러한 투자는 폭넓은 프로그램의 계획 업그레이드(upgrade)와 지속적인 유지보수의 일환”이라고 말했다.

스노이 산맥 수력발전소 계획안은 스노이 강과 이곳의 지류를 따라 있는 호주 남동부에 위치하고 있다. 그러한 프로젝트는 10개의 수력발전소와 16개의 주요 댐(dam)들과 저장소를 포함하고 있다.

Underwater services provider Hibbard Inshore has completed another round of inspections of Australia's 3,756-MW Snowy Mountains hydropower project using its tethered vehicles, the Michigan-based company has announced.

Using its newest long-range vehicle, the SAAB Sabertooth, Hibbard Inshore traversed more than 12 km in a single direction through a tunnel for a round-trip exceeding 24 km.

 

The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) was able to collect visual data in addition to scanning the tunnel with multiple types of multibeam sonar to take high-density dimensional data.

 

The company said it was also able to detect cracks, holes, areas of debris buildup, lining failure and rockfalls. Data collected was then used to create three-dimensional models for analysis and maintenance purposes.

 

Hibbard Inshore has already inspected six trans-mountain tunnels in the Snowy Mountain scheme using the Sabertooth units and will return in 2014 for more inspections.

 

Previously, the tunnels would have needed to be drained for inspection, making use of the ROV units more time-efficient and safer.

 

"The use of the unmanned sub for tunnel inspections now means that it can be done more frequently, more safely and without the need to shut down power stations or drain the tunnel," Snow Hydro Chief Operating Officer Ken Lister said.

 

"This multi-million dollar investment is a great outcome for the business, for the safety of our people and contractors, and is part of our wider program of scheme upgrades and ongoing maintenance."

 

The Snowy Mountains scheme is located in southeastern Australia along the Snowy River and its tributaries. The project includes 10 hydropower plants and 16 major dams and reservoirs.
