세계적인 물 기술 기업인 Xylem(XYL)사가 시설의 처리 용량을 확대시키는 노력의 일환으로 포르투갈 북부에 위치한 Santa Eufemia 시립 상수처리 플랜트에 한외여과 솔루션을 제공했다.

Oporto 시의 남쪽에 위치한 이 시설은 업그레이드의 결과로 Guimaraes와 Vizela 지역의 주민들 8만여 명에게 하루 2천4백만 리터의 깨끗한 물을 공급할 수 있게 됐다.

XYL사는 엔지니어링·조달·시공을 맡은 Moinhos Ambiente사와 함께 프로젝트 작업을 진행했다.

 

 

Ultrafiltration technology helps supply clean drinking water in Northern Portugal
    
Xylem Inc. (NYSE:XYL), a global water technology company aiming to address challenging water issues, has provided ultrafiltration solutions to the Santa Eufemia municipal water treatment plant, located in Northern Portugal, as part of a recent effort to expand the treatment capacity of the utility.

 

The facility, based north of the city of Oporto, has a new capacity of 24 million liters per day as a result of the upgrade, providing clean drinking water to roughly 80,000 people in the Guimaraes and Vizela regions.

 

Xylem has worked with Moinhos Ambiente, the company in charge of engineering, procurement and construction for the project, to provide GE's ZeeWeed* 1500 membrane modules and Lowara pumps, as well as process and design engineering support, in a contract worth €430,000 ($552,500) to Xylem.

The Santa Eufemia plant treats water from the nearby Rio Ave River and is operated by Vimagua, the municipal authority for water management in the region. Plant upgrade work was required as a result of deteriorating water quality from the river. The plant is now one of the largest installations of GE's ZeeWeed 1500 modules in Europe and the Middle East.

 

Xylem has been a distribution partner for GE's membrane filtration products since November 2011. GE's ZeeWeed 1500 membranes were chosen for the Santa Eufemia plant because of their reliable filtration that provides superior water quality.

 

The ultrafiltration system provided by Xylem is designed with four parallel membrane trains, each incorporating 88 membrane modules. This ensures full system capacity and as it is fully automated, minimizes operator intervention.

 

The Santa Eufemia plant was originally constructed in the 1980s and performed with limited capacity since then. Vimagua decided to revamp the facility to install the ultrafiltration membrane plant following an in-depth study of alternative solutions.
