SUEZ사가 일본 파트너인 Marubeni사와의 컨소시엄에서 카타르 공공사업부 정부에 의해 도하 서부 폐수처리 및 재활용 플랜트의 확장을 위탁받았다. 총 계약금액은 2억 2천90만 달러이고, SUEZ에 배정된 금액은 1억 1천170만 달러이다.

이 확장으로 플랜트의 처리 용량이 하루 10만5천㎥에서 28만㎥까지 추가적으로 늘어날 것으로 보인다. 계약기간 동안 이 플랜트는 도하 시와 동등한 1백4만 명 인구의 하수를 관리할 수 있게 됐다.

이 프로젝트는 2005년에 서명된 13만5천㎥ 규모 플랜트의 설계 시공 및 10년 운영 계약과, 17만5천㎥ 용량으로 늘리는 계약으로 2011년 서명된 첫 번째 확장 계약, 이 두 계약에 따라 진행된다.

 

 

 

SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT, through its subsidiary Degremont, has been commissioned by the Government of Qatar's Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in consortium with its Japanese partner Marubeni Corporation, to expand the Doha West wastewater treatment and recycling plant. The total contract is worth €178 million ($220.9 million), with €94 million ($111.7 million) of the total designated for SUEZ.

This expansion will increase the plant's treatment capacity by an additional 105,000 m3/day to 280,000 m3/day. Over the term of the contract, the plant will be able to manage the wastewater of a 1,040,000 population equivalent from Doha city.

 

This project follows the two contracts signed in 2005 for the design, construction and 10-year operation of a 135,000 m3/d plant, then in 2011 for its first expansion to 175,000 m3/d to serve a population estimated at 650,000 inhabitants. Located over 12 miles west of Doha, the plant has been in operation since March 2010. The 2011 expansion was completed in late 2012, and SUEZ will oversee the plant's operation until 2020.

 

To confront Doha's increasing population, Ashghal essentially chose the same technologies that have already been put in place and proven effective: expansion of the secondary biologic treatment and expansion of the tertiary treatment, which implements ultrafiltration membranes and the Smartrack™ system, thus allowing reuse of the treated water to irrigate green spaces and market gardens, as well as replenish groundwater.

 

This contract strengthens the presence of SUEZ in Qatar, where it also designed and built wastewater treatment facilities for Barwa City (50,000 inhabitants) and Lusail (250,000 inhabitants), which use treated water to re-vegetate desert parcels of land and, over time, to maintain green spaces throughout the artificial Pearl Island.
