[바베이도스] 물부족 막기 위해 추가 담수화 검토

바베이도스 농업·식품·수산·수자원관리부 장관 David Estwick은 바베이도스는 곧 또 다른 담수화 플랜트를 구축할 계획이라고 밝혔다. 바베이도스 수력청의 새 본부 공식 개회식에서 장관은 물부족의 심각함에 대해 “장·단기적인 물 도전과제를 효과적으로 해결할 수 있는 담수화 외에는 해결방안이 없다”고 말했다.

Estwick 장관은 “이미 수력청장인 John Mwansa에게 신규 담수화 시설을 구축할 것을 제안했다”면서 “해수담수화는 바베이도스가 가야만 하는 방향이며, 플랜트가 성과를 내기 까지는 18개월에서 2년 가량 걸릴 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.

Barbados is very likely to soon have another desalination plant according to minister of agriculture, food, fisheries and water resource management, David Estwick.

Speaking at a formal opening of the Barbados Water Authority's new headquarters, the minister said that the severity of water shortages on the island: "there is going to be no solution apart from desalination that will effectively address the challenges in the short to long term."

Estwick said that he had already asked the water authority's acting general manager, John Mwansa, to request proposals to build a new desalination facility. He said seawater desalination was the direction that Barbados had to take, and he anticipated that it would take about 18 months to two years to bring such a plant to fruition.

His remarks came as he indicated that his ministry is also well aware of the naribbean Development Bank earlier this week, and they will be seeking approval for funding from their board to deal with non-revenue water.
