[미국] EPA, 우수관리 위반으로 콜로라도 스프링스에 소송 제기

미국 환경보호국(EPA)과 보건부는 2009년부터 콜로라도 스프링스(Colorado Springs)의 수질 및 우수 위반에 대해 소송을 제기했다.

콜로라도 스프링스 신문은 2011년부터 2014년까지 우수 프로그램의 부실관리에 대한 벌금이 수백만에 이를 것이라고 보고했다.

2013년 EPA 회계감사는 적어도 두 건의 사건에서 처리되지 않은 우수를 주 수역으로 배출했으며 적절하게 수질을 보호하는 것에 실패했다는 것을 보여줬다.

존 수덜스(John Suthers) 시장은 2015년 취임한 시점부터 과거의 위반사항을 수정하기 위해 460달러짜리 계획을 시행했다. 성명서에서 시장은 도시의 우수 프로그램을 개선하기 위해 노력 중이며, 법적 조치를 취하는 결정에 대해 좌절감을 표명했다.

EPA, STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT FILE STORMWATER LAWSUIT IN COLORADO SPRINGS

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state health department filed a lawsuit against the City of Colorado Springs over water quality and stormwater violations from as far back as 2009.

The Colorado Springs Gazette is reporting that civil penalties for mismanagement of stormwater programs from 2011 to 2014 could number in the millions.

An EPA audit from 2013 showed that at least two developments released untreated stormwater into state water bodies, and other failures to protect water quality led to the suit.

Mayor John Suthers has implemented a $460 plan to fix violations of the past since he took office in 2015. In a statement, the mayor said he is working on improvements to the city's stormwater programs, and expressed frustration over the decision to file legal action now.
