| Severn Trent Services Awarded Water System Audit Project by City of Baltimore
Fort Washington, Pa. - September 16, 2002 - Severn Trent Services has been awarded a contract by the City of Baltimore to perform a comprehensive analysis of the City’s water production, distribution, and customer metering system that also serves parts of Baltimore County.
The water system audit, designed to provide data that will enable Baltimore to maximize the water system’s performance, will include: production meter calibration, records review, meter sizing and application analysis, pressure zone usage measurements, leak detection, and hydraulic computer model calibration. As a result of the audit, Severn Trent will offer recommended changes for the water audit process, future water accountability practices, and a calibrated water model.
"We conduct field tests to verify the City’s water production meters; to see if they are measuring the correct water production for accurate water audit tabulation," said Larry Rott, P.E., Severn Trent’s District Manager for the project. "We will also perform leak detection, hydraulic gradient measurements, and carrying capacity measurements of large water mains. All the field measurements will be incorporated into an updated hydraulic computer model that will be used by the City to maximize water system performance."
Field-testing and engineering analysis is expected to take 15 months. The contract is valued at $970,000.
