[미국] 뉴스케일-두산중공업,  혁신적 소형 모듈 반응로 배치 협약

뉴스케일파워(NuScale Power)가 두산중공업 및 사전트 앤 룬디(Sargent & Lundy)와 자사의 획기적인 소형 모듈 반응로(SMR) 배치 및 뉴스케일에 대한 현금 투자를 지원하는 협약을 타결했다고 지난 7월 31일 발표했다.

두산중공업은 원자로 압력 용기 제조 부문의 전문성을 바탕으로 뉴스케일의 획기적인 뉴스케일 파워 모듈™(NuScale Power ModuleTM, NPM) 개발을 목표로 하는 미국 주도 제조팀에 합류하게 된다. 한편 사전트 앤 룬디는 아이다호의 무탄소 전력 프로젝트 등 여러 장소를 위한 표준형 발전소 설계를 개발하고 추가적인 건축공학적 지원을 제공한다.

뉴스케일의 기술은 미국 원자력규제위원회(U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, NRC)의 설계 인증 검토를 받게 된 세계에서 유일한 최초의 소형 모듈 반응로다. 최근 NRC는 3단계 리뷰 절차 가운데 2단계까지 완료했으며 2020년 9월까지 리뷰가 최종 마무리될 전망이다. 뉴스케일의 첫 고객인 유타연합전력시스템(Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems)은 12개의 모듈 SMR 발전소를 아이다호에 설립하고 2020년대 중반께 운영을 시작할 계획이다.

NuScale Closes New Business Agreements to Support Deployment of Revolutionary Small Modular Reactor and Provide Cash Investment

Company has finalized separate strategic partnerships with Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction and Sargent & Lundy

PORTLAND, ORE--(Business Wire / Korea Newswire) August 01, 2019 -- NuScale Power today announced that it has finalized agreements with Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction (DHIC) and Sargent & Lundy to support deployment of its groundbreaking small modular reactor (SMR) and provide cash investment in NuScale.

DHIC will bring its expertise in nuclear pressure vessel manufacturing and will join the larger U.S.-led manufacturing team to build NuScale’s groundbreaking NuScale Power Module™ (NPM), America’s first small modular reactor. Meanwhile, Sargent & Lundy will proceed with development of the standard plant design to be used at multiple locations, including the Carbon Free Power Project in Idaho, and will provide additional architect-engineer support.

NuScale’s technology is the world’s first and only SMR to undergo design certification review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC recently completed phases 2 and 3 of its review and is scheduled to complete the entire review of NuScale’s design in September 2020. NuScale’s first customer, Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems, is planning a 12-module SMR plant in Idaho slated for operation by the mid-2020s based on this certified design.
