이지마이닝(EasyMining Germany)은 자회사 PGS(Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau GmbH)가 3월 19일(현지시각) MSE(MSE Mobile Schlammentwässerung), 겔젠키르헨(GELSENWASSER)과 인 회수를 위한 하수슬러지 애쉬 공급(Delivery of Sewage Sludge Ash for Phosphorus Recovery) 계약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

슬러지 애쉬(재)는 독일 남서부 지역에서 생산될 예정이며, 이 지역에서 애쉬2포스(Ash2Phos) 기술을 통해 인 회수를 실현할 수 있는 발판을 마련할 것이다. 이는 수년간의 애쉬 납품 계약이 성공적으로 마무리됐음을 의미하며, 인 순환 시장에서 주목할 만한 발전으로 평가되고 있다.

레오 호만(Leo Homann) MSE 상무는 "이번 계약 체결은 하수슬러지 재에서 더 깨끗한 인을 회수하겠다는 약속이자 하수슬러지 규정을 이행하기 위한 결정적인 단계"라고 말했다.

작센안할트주(Saxony-Anhalt) 쇼코파우(Schkopau)에서는 현재 애쉬2포스 기술을 기반으로 한 최초의 인 회수 공장 건설을 위한 허가 절차가 진행되고 있다. 이지마이닝과 겔젠키르헨의 합작회사인 PGS가 건설한 이 시설은 2026년 말 시운전을 목표로 하고 있다.

크리스티안 카베(Christian Kabbe) 이지마이닝 전무이사는 "이번 애쉬 공급 계약은 독일 최초의 애쉬2포스 공장을 실현하기 위한 협력의 첫 번째 단계이자, 애쉬 획득을 위한 자원을 모으는 중요한 단계"라며 "출시되기 전에 중요한 시연 역할을 한다"고 밝혔다.

애쉬2포스 기술은 애쉬와 같은 재생 가능한 광물(Mineral) 농축액에서 인산칼슘(RevoCaP®)으로 인을 효율적으로 추출해 고품질 비료 등 인 기반 제품의 다용도 순수 재료를 제공한다. 또한, 이 공정은 먹이사슬에서 중금속과 같은 유해한 오염물질을 제거해 환경 위험을 완화할 수 있다.

애쉬2포스 공정은 애쉬의 95% 이상을 사용해 인 회수율 90%를 초과하는 우수한 성능을 입증했다. 이러한 높은 효율성은 가치 있는 부산물을 생산하고 다양한 산업에 기여할 수 있으며, 순환 경제를 육성하는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

마틴 브라우너러처(Martin Braunersreuther) PGS 상무이사는 "앞으로 이 프로젝트는 독일 청정 인(Clean Phosphorus)의 친환경 자원 순환체계(Closed-loop Circulation)에 기여할 것"이라며 "3사는 환경 친화적이고 지속 가능한 인 회수 및 활용을 지지하는 독일 이니셔티브 '소버러 포스포 (Sauberer Phosphor) 2029'의 기본 원칙에 따라 노력하고 있다"고 설명했다.

First Contract Signed For Delivery Of Sewage Sludge Ash For Phosphorus Recovery

 

Marking a significant step in their commitment since September 12. 2023, MSE Mobile Schlammentwässerung (MSE) and Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau GmbH (PGS), a joint venture company of GELSENWASSER and EasyMining have signed an ash delivery contract.  

The ash will originate from Southwest Germany, setting the stage for the implementation of phosphorus recovery through the Ash2Phos technology in this region. This signifies the successful finalisation of the inaugural multi-year ash delivery contract, representing a noteworthy advancement in the phosphorus circular market. 

- For us, the conclusion of the contract is a clear commitment to recovering cleaner phosphorus from sewage sludge ash and a decisive step towards implementing the sewage sludge regulation, says Leo Homann, Managing Director at MSE.  

In Schkopau, Saxony-Anhalt, the permitting process is currently underway for the first-of-its-kind phosphorus recovery plant build on the Ash2Phos technology. This facility, built by the joint venture, Phosphorgewinnung Schkopau GmbH, between EasyMining and GELSENWASSER, is on track for commissioning at the end of 2026. 

- This ash delivery agreement marks the inaugural step in our collaboration, driving the realisation of the first Ash2Phos plant in Germany. It is a critical phase, pooling resources for ash acquisition, and serves as a crucial demonstration before the rollout can commence, says Christian Kabbe, Managing Director at EasyMining.  

The Ash2Phos technology efficiently extracts phosphorus as calcium phosphate (RevoCaP®) from renewable mineral concentrates like ash, offering a versatile pure material for phosphorus-based products, including high-quality fertilisers. Simultaneously, the process mitigates environmental risks by removing harmful pollutants, such as heavy metals, from the food chain. 

With exceptional efficiency, the Ash2Phos process shown a phosphorus recovery rate exceeding 90 percent, utilising over 95 percent of the ash. This high efficiency is attributed to the production of valuable co-products, contributing to various industries, and fostering a circular economy. 

- In the future, these projects will make a significant contribution to the closed-loop circulation of clean phosphorus in Germany. MSE, Gelsenwasser, and EasyMining are working in line with the guiding principles of the German initiative Sauberer Phosphor 2029, advocating for environmentally friendly and sustainable phosphorus recovery and utilisation in Germany, says Martin Braunersreuther, Managing Director at PGS.
