대우 E&C는 대한민국 서울 소재의 구의 정수장에 560만 파운드 용량의 입상활성탄(GAC, granular activated carbon)을, 미국 기업인 Calgon Carbon에서 구입하여 공급하는 계약을 체결했다.

음용수 정수용으로 일반적으로 사용되는 GAC 제품은 원수 내의 불쾌한 맛과 냄새 제거 목적으로 새롭게 건조된 카본필터 장치에 투입 예정이다.

입상활성탄이 공급될 구의 정수장은 45만㎥/일 규모의 먹는 물을 60만 서울 주민들에게 공급하고 있다.

Calgon Carbon사는 미국 피츠버그에 소재한 세계에서 가장 큰 규모의 GAC 공급업체로 100여 종류의 활성탄(입자형태, 분말형태, 펠릿형태, 섬유사형태 등) 제품을 700개 이상의 분야에 공급하고 있다. 근무 인원은 1천100명이며 미국, 아시아, 유럽 등에 15개의 제조 플랜트, 활성화 플랜트, 설비 플랜트를 가동하고 있다.

 

DaeWoo Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. (DAEWOO E&C), recently awarded Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC) a contract to supply 5.6 million pounds of granular activated carbon (GAC) to the Gu Eui Municipal Drinking Water Plant in Seoul City, South Korea.

Used to provide efficient drinking water treatment, the GAC will be installed in newly-constructed carbon filters to remove unpleasant taste and odor from the facility's source water.

The Gu Eui Plant provides 119 million gallons of potable water per day to approximately 600,000 residents in GwangJin-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

Calgon Carbon was selected due to its rigorous product quality assurance procedure and the sufficient long-term performance of other products installed in several other municipal drinking water treatment plants throughout Korea.
