[뉴질랜드] 베올리아, 토코로아 하수처리장 업그레이드

모래 필터를 탈질소 처리 후 AnoxKaldnes™ MBBR 공정으로 전환

물 및 하·폐수 처리 분야의 선도적인 솔루션 제공업체인 베이올라 워터 테크놀러지스(Veolia Water Technologies)는 뉴질랜드 사우스 와이카토(South Waikato)에 있는 토코로아 하수처리장(Tokoroa wastewater treatment plant)의 업그레이드 프로젝트의 일환으로 소형의 지속가능한 ‘AnoxKaldnes™(아녹스칼드네스)’ 이동층 생물막 반응기(MBBR ; Moving Bed Bio Film Reactor) 솔루션을 제공한다.

베올리아(Veolia)가 전액 출자한 자회사인  아녹스칼드네스(AnoxKaldnes)가 설계한 MBBR 솔루션은 토코로아(Tokoroa)의 오래된 모래 필터(sand filter)를 탈질소 처리 후 MBBR 플랜트로 바꾸는 지속가능한 생물학적 공정이다.

소형이며 작동이 간편한 AnoxKaldnes MBBR은 생물화학적 산소요구량(BOD), 암모니아(NH3) 및 질소(N) 제거를 위한 효율적인 솔루션이다. 이 솔루션은 일반적인 수명이 20년 이상인 내구성이 뛰어난 고밀도 폴리에틸렌(HDPE ; High Density Polyethylene)으로 만들어진 고유한 ‘K5 메디아(K5 media)’를 사용한다.

베이올라 워터 테크놀러지스는 뉴질랜드 사우스 와이카토(South Waikato)에 있는 토코로아 하수처리장(Tokoroa wastewater treatment plant)의 업그레이드 프로젝트의 일환으로 소형의 지속가능한 ‘AnoxKaldnes™(아녹스칼드네스)’ 이동층 생물막 반응기(MBBR ; Moving Bed Bio Film Reactor) 솔루션을 완공했다.

‘K5 메디아(K5 media)’는 보호된 넓은 표면적(800㎡/㎥)과 생물막 개발을 위한 최적의 조건을 제공하므로 식물이 작은 공간 내에서 높은 처리 용량을 제공할 수 있다.

베올리아 워터 테크놀로지스의 시 고객 관리자인 캐런 쇼(Karen Shaw)는 “베올리아는 토코로아 하수처리장의 업그레이드에 참여하게 된 것을 자랑스럽게 생각한다. 우리의 MBBR 설계를 통해 사우스 와이카토(South Waikato) 지역 의회가 높은 수준의 질소 제거를 달성할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 의회가 현장에 있는 기존 탱크를 재사용할 수 있게 하여 프로젝트에 매우 지속가능한 접근 방식이 될 것이다”라고 말했다.

사우스 와이카토 지역 의회는 또한 토코로아 하수처리장 업그레이드를 위한 건설 작업 완료와 새로운 MBBR 처리장의 공사 완료 및 작업 시작에 대한 감사의 표시로 현지 마오리 원주민(indigenous Maori)인 라우카와이위(Raukawa iwi)가 공연하는 축복 행사도 진행했다.

Veolia Water Technologies delivers wastewater treatment solution for Tokoroa plant upgrade

Veolia Water Technologies, a leading solutions provider for both water and wastewater treatment, delivers a compact and sustainable AnoxKaldnes™ Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) solution as part of the upgrading project at the Tokoroa wastewater treatment plant in South Waikato, New Zealand.

Designed by AnoxKaldnes, Veolia’s wholly-owned subsidiary, the MBBR solution is a sustainable biological process that transforms Tokoroa’s old sand filters into a post-denitrification MBBR plant. 

Compact and simple to operate, the AnoxKaldnes MBBR is an efficient solution for the removal of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), ammonia, and nitrogen. The solution utilises a unique K5 media that is made of durable high density polyethylene with a typical lifespan of over 20 years. 

The K5 media provides a large protected surface area (800 m2/m3) and optimal conditions for the development of biofilm, thus enabling the plant to offer high treatment capacity within a small footprint.

Karen Shaw, Municipal Client Manager at Veolia Water Technologies, commented, "Veolia is proud to be involved in the upgrading of the Tokoroa wastewater treatment plant. Not only will our MBBR design allow the South Waikato District Council to achieve a high level of nitrogen removal, but it will also enable the council to reuse existing tanks on the site - making this a very sustainable approach for the project."

The South Waikato District Council also hosted a blessing event, performed by the local Raukawa iwi (indigenous Maori), in thanksgiving for the completion of construction works for the upgrading and for the start of works on the new MBBR plant.
