마루베니사(Marubeni Corporation)는 마루베니(Marubeni), 압둘 라티프 자멜 상업개발회사(Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company Ltd ; ALJ), 라와피드 알하다라 홀딩(Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Ltd .; Rawafid) 및 악시오나 아구아 사우디아라비아(Acciona Agua S.A. ; Acciona) 등이 소유한 슈카이크 수자원 3사(Shuqaiq Three Company for Water)는 사우디아라비아에서 ‘슈카이크 3단계 독립 물 프로젝트(Shuqaiq 3 Independent Water Project)’의 상업 운영을 시작했다고 4월 15일 밝혔다.

이 프로젝트에는 하루 45만㎥의 물을 생산하여 주민 200만 명에게 공급하는 RO(역삼투) 기반 담수화 플랜트의 건설, 운영 및 유지 보수가 포함된다. 이 플랜트에서 생산되는 모든 물은 25년 물 구매 계약에 따라 사우디 워터파트너십 컴퍼니(SWPC ; Saudi Water Partnership Company)에서 구매한다.

다른 걸프협력회의(Gulf Cooperation Council) 국가들과 마찬가지로 경제와 인구가 지속적으로 증가하면서 물 수요가 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 또한 에너지 효율이 높은 RO 기반 담수화 발전소에 대한 수요가 있으며, 이는 재생 에너지로 향하는 세계적인 추세를 반영하여 화력발전과 결합할 필요가 없다.

Commercial Operation of Shuqaiq 3 Independent Water Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter “Marubeni”) is pleased to announce that Shuqaiq Three Company for Water owned by Marubeni, Abdul Latif Jameel Commercial Development Company Ltd. (hereinafter “ALJ”), Rawafid Alhadarah Holding Ltd. (hereinafter “Rawafid”), and Acciona Agua S.A. (hereinafter “Acciona”) commenced commercial operation of the Shuqaiq 3 Independent Water Project (hereinafter “Project”) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (hereinafter “Saudi Arabia”).

The Project includes the construction, operation, and maintenance of the RO*-based desalination plant, which produces 450,000m³ of water per day (supplied to a population of approximately 2 million). 

All water produced from the plant will be purchased by Saudi Water Partnership Company (hereinafter, “SWPC”) under a 25-year water purchase agreement.

Just as in other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the demand for water in Saudi Arabia is increasing rapidly as both the economy and population of the country continue to grow. 

There is also demand for energy-efficient RO-based desalination plants, which are independent and do not require coupling with thermal power generation, reflecting the global trend towards renewable energy.

Marubeni will leverage its globally-accumulated knowledge and experience to strive to contribute to establish a sustainable society by providing reliable and safe water services to people living in areas where access to water is scarce.

*RO (Reverse Osmosis): A process in which water is produced by forcing saline water through a semipermeable membrane.
