[미국] 오스틴 워터, 물재이용 시스템 '블랙워터' 공개

오스틴 워터(Austin Water)는 오스틴의 새로운 개발을 위한 물 관리의 미래 경로를 설정하기 위해 고안된 혁신적인 '블랙워터' 시스템을 공개했다. OSCAR(On-site Collection and Reuse System)와 CLAR(Closed-loop Advanced Reclaimed Assembly)로 알려진 오스틴시 허가 개발 센터에 위치한 이 프로젝트는 시운전을 완료했으며 상업용 건물의 지속 가능한 물재이용을 시연하고 오스틴의 현재 물 공급을 확장하는 데 사용될 예정다.

로버트 구드(Robert Goode) 임시 국장은 "OSCARA와 CLARA는 오스틴시가 매년 100만 갤런 이상의 식수를 절약하도록 돕는 것을 목표로 하고 있으며, 오스틴의 식수 사용을 75%까지 줄일 수 있다"면서 "오스틴시가 계속 성장함에 따라, OSCAR와 CLARA는 현장에서 물을 재이용할 수 있는 도시의 다른 새로운 건물의 모델이 될 것"이라고 말했다.

오스틴 워터의 환경, 계획 및 개발 서비스 부서장인 케빈 크리텐든(Kevin Critendon)은 "OSCAR와 CLARA는 오스틴 워터의 Water Forward Plan에서 확인된 현장 물재이용 전략의 훌륭한 예"라면서 "이 시범 프로젝트를 시작하는 것은 미래의 성장과 기후 변화에 직면하여 오스틴의 상업적 개발이 어떻게 지속 가능한 물의 미래에 기여할 수 있는지 보여주는 중요한 단계"라고 말했다

OSCAR는 컨퍼런스 센터 옆 잔디밭 지하에 위치해 있으며, 4만 갤런의 빗물과 에어컨 응축수를 수집하여 여과한 후 탱크에 저장하여 실외 조경을 위해 재이용할 수 있다. 이 시스템은 우리의 음용수를 보존할 뿐만 아니라, 음용수를 생산하는 데 사용되는 처리 과정을 제거함으로써 에너지를 절약한다.

CLARA는 보행자 통로 아래 설치돼 건물 하수구에서 하루에 최대 5천갤런의 하·폐수를 수거해 첨단 멤브레인 기술을 이용해 처리한 뒤 깨끗한 물을 다시 건물로 재이용해 화장실과 소변기를 씻어낼 수 있다. 

이 프로젝트는 오스틴 워터와 오스틴 시 개발 서비스 및 유역 보호 부서 간의 파트너십을 통해 개발되었다.

오스틴 워터는 새로운 현장 블랙워터 재이용 시스템의 최근 시공을 축하하는 행사를 위해 언론을 직원들과 특별 손님들과 함께 초대합니다. 직원들은 새 시스템의 질문에 답하고 이점에 대해 논의하기 위해 연설을 마친 후 대기할 것이다.

Meet OSCAR and CLARA, the Future of Water Management in Austin

Austin Water is unveiling an innovative blackwater system designed to set a course for the future of water management for new development in Austin. Located at the City of Austin’s Permitting and Development Center and known as OSCAR and CLARA, the project has completed commissioning and will be used to demonstrate sustainable water reuse for commercial buildings and help extend Austin’s current water supply.

“Together, OSCAR and CLARA are aiming to help the City of Austin to save over one million gallons of drinking water each year, reducing the site’s potable water use by up to 75%, said Interim Director Robert Goode. “As the City of Austin continues to grow, OSCAR and CLARA will serve as models for other new buildings in the City that can capture and reuse water onsite.”

“OSCAR and CLARA are great examples of on-site water reuse strategies identified in in Austin’s Water Forward Plan,” said Kevin Critendon, Assistant Director of Environmental, Planning and Development Services for Austin Water. “Launching this pilot project is an important step in demonstrating how commercial development in Austin can help contribute to a sustainable water future in the face of future growth and climate change.”

In the lawn area next to the conference center is an underground On-site Collection and Reuse System, or OSCAR. OSCAR can collect 40,000 gallons of rainwater and air-conditioning condensate that is filtered and then stored in tanks to reuse for outdoor landscaping. This system not only conserves our potable water, but also saves energy by eliminating the treatment process used to produce drinking water.

Hidden beneath the pedestrian walkway from E. Highland Mall Blvd. you’ll find CLARA, a Closed-loop Advanced Reclaimed Assembly. CLARA can collect up to 5,000 gallons per day of wastewater from the building’s sewers, treat it using advanced membrane technology, and then recycle the clean water back to the building to flush toilets and urinals. This water can be used repeatedly for this purpose.

The project was developed through a partnership between Austin Water and the City of Austin’s Development Services and Watershed Protection Departments.

Austin Water invites the media to join staff and special guests for a ceremony to celebrate the recent commissioning of the new on-site blackwater reuse system. Staff will be on hand after opening remarks to answer questions and discuss the benefits of the new system.
