[UAE] DEWA, “‘하타 저수조 프로젝트’ 건설공사 공정률 36%”

저수용량 11만3,600㎥·총 사업비 301억5,700만원 소요…2023년 4월 완공 목표

아랍에미레이트(UAE)의 두바이 수전력청(Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ; DEWA, 이하 ‘DEWA’) 사이드 모하메드 알 타예르(HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer) MD(상무이사) & CEO는 DEWA가 하타(Hatta)에 짓고 있는 저수조 프로젝트(water reservoir project)를 방문해 진행 상황을 점검했다. 

이 프로젝트의 사업일정을 보면 목표치 32.6%에 비해 36.259%로 사업추진에 상당한 진전이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 2021년 4월 7일에 착공한 이 프로젝트의 용량은 3천만 갤런(약 11만 3천600㎥)으로 약 8천600만 AED(301억5천700만 원)의 비용이 소요되며 2023년 4월에 완공될 예정이다.

이 사업은 담수화수 저장용량 3천만 갤런의 저수지 2개 축조, 지원 건물(변전소, 운영 건물, 장비 건물, 화학물질 저장 건물, 이산화염소 생성 건물) 건설, 출입구 배관 증설 등이다. 모든 시설과 저수조에 대한 구조 기초공사가 100% 완료된 반면, 지상공사는 27%가 완료됐으며 배관이 35% 가까이 매설됐다.

알 타예르 CEO는 “우리는 에미리트 개발의 모든 측면에 대한 현재 및 미래의 요구사항을 충족하기 위해 전기 및 수도 네트워크를 위한 효과적이고 효율적인 인프라의 예로서 이 지역에서 두바이의 선도적인 위치를 확립하는 것을 목표로 한다”고 말했다.

알 타예르 CEO는 특히 “우리는 또한 최첨단 기술과 혁신적인 솔루션을 사용하여 수자원을 향상시키는 데 초점을 맞춘 ‘두바이 통합 수자원 관리 전략 2030(Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030)’에 따라 수자원의 지속 가능성을 보장하기 위한 두바이의 포괄적인 접근 방식을 지지한다”고 강조했다.

알 타예르 CEO는 이어 “DEWA의 생산능력은 현재 하루에 4억9천만 갤런(185만4천900㎥)의 염화수이다. DEWA는 또한 아랍 걸프 지역 최초의 하타 수력발전소(Hatta hydroelectric power plant)를 건설하고 있으며, 투자액은 14억2천100만 AED(4천992억5천400만 원)로 추산된다. 이 발전소의 용량은 250MW(메가와트)이고 저장 용량은 시간당 1천500MW이다”라고 덧붙였다.

이 프로젝트는 현재 8억2천200만 갤런(약 311만1천610㎥)에 비해 2025년까지 두바이의 스토리지 용량을 72억12만 갤런(2천730만㎥)으로 늘리려는 DEWA의 노력의 일환이다. DEWA는 물 네트워크의 효율성과 신뢰성을 향상시킨다. 이는 두바이 전 지역에서 증가하는 물 수요를 충족시키기 위해 물의 흐름을 개선하고, 에미레이트의 물 비축량을 증가시키며, 지속 가능한 개발을 지원한다.

알 타예르 CEO는 “DEWA가 하타(Hatta)에서 두바이 마운틴 피크(Dubai Mountain Peak)와 하타 지속 가능한 폭포(Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls)라는 두 가지 다른 선구적인 프로젝트를 시행하고 있다”고 언급하면서 “이 프로젝트들은 두바이의 주요 관광지 중 하나인 하타의 위치를 홍보할 것”이라고 밝혔다.

Remarkable progress in DEWA’s 30 MIG water reservoir in Hatta

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), visited the water reservoir project DEWA is building in Hatta to review its progress. According to the project schedule, there is significant progress in the project’s work at 36.259% compared to the 32.6% target. 

The project has a capacity of 30 million imperial gallons (MIG), at a cost of approximately AED 86 million. The project has a capacity of 30 million gallons at a cost of about AED 86 million. It started on 7 April 2021 and is expected to be complete by April 2023.

The project includes the construction of two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 30 million gallons of desalinated water, the construction of supporting buildings (a sub-station, operations building, equipment building, chemical storage building, chlorine dioxide generation building) and the extension of entrance and exit pipes. 

The structural foundation works for all facilities and reservoirs are 100% complete, while the above-ground works are 27% complete, and nearly 35% of the pipes have been laid.

‘We seek to achieve the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We also work to consolidate the foundations of sustainable development for Hatta. 

We aim to establish Dubai’s leading position in the region, as an example of an effective and efficient infrastructure for electricity and water networks, to meet current and future requirements for all aspects of development in the Emirate. 

We also support Dubai’s comprehensive approach to ensuring the sustainability of water resources in line with the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030, which focuses on enhancing water resources, using cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions. 

DEWA’s production capacity is currently 490 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day. DEWA is also implementing the Hatta hydroelectric power plant, the first of its kind in the Arab Gulf region, with investments estimated at AED 1.421 billion. The plant will have a capacity of 250 MW, and a storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt-hours,” said Al Tayer.

“The project is part of DEWA’s efforts to increase the storage capacity of Dubai to reach 7,212 million gallons by 2025 compared to the current 822 million gallons. DEWA enhances the efficiency and reliability of the water network. It improves the water flow to fulfil the increasing demand for water in all parts of Dubai, increases the volume of the Emirate’s water reserves and supports sustainable development,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA is implementing two other pioneering projects in Hatta, which are Dubai Mountain Peak and the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls. These projects will promote Hatta’s position as one of the key tourist destinations in Dubai.
