피나르우유, 튀르키에 최대 유제품 회사 

폐수처리 및 바이오가스 생산을 위한 베올리아워터테크롤로지스(Veolia Water Technologies)의 특허 솔루션은 현재 튀르키에(터키) 이즈미르(Izmir)에 있는 피나르우유(Pinar Sut) 공장에서 사용 중이다. 이를 통해 회사는 새로운 배출 법규를 준수하고 환경 약속을 달성하여 탄소 배출량을 17% 줄이고 천연가스를 크게 절감하고 있다.

주로 우유, 요거트, 치즈, 과일 주스, 케첩, 마요네즈를 생산하는 튀르키에 최대 유제품 회사 중 하나인 피나르우유는 최근  베올리아워터테크롤로지스가 건설한 폐수처리시설을 통해 지속가능한 발전을 위한 야망을 실현했다.

처리된 물은 공장에서 세척수(flushing water)와 같은 특정 용도에 대한 추가 3차 처리와 함께 재사용하기에 적합하며, 이는 피나르우유의 지속가능성 목표에 기여하고 있다.

가치 있는 바이오가스의 생산을 가능하게 하는 과정의 핵심에는 두 개의 베올리아 특허 기술이 있다. 

폐수는 먼저 스크린과 Idraflot®용존 공기 부양장치를 통해 지방, 기름과 그리스(FOG) 및 부유 고형물을 유지한 후 화학적 산소요구량(COD)의 80% 이상이 제거되는 Biobed® EGSB 입상 바이오매스 혐기처리 장치(biomass anaerobic treatment unit)로 들어간다.

이 처리 단계는 처리시설에서 생성되는 바이오가스의 약 45%를 생산한다. DAF에 저장된  FOG는 다른 유기성 폐기물과 결합되어 정제 및 추가 바이오가스 생산을 위해 Biobulk™ CSTR 장치로 보내진다.

2011년부터 피나르 우유에서 기업의 탄소발자국(carbon footprint) 산정 및 보고 연구를 진행하고 있다. 이에 따라 회사는 탄소 배출량을 15% 줄이기 위한 활동을 지속적으로 수행하고 있다.

하루 3천600㎥/일의 폐수처리 시설은 공장 보일러에 사용되는 총 8천980N㎥의 바이오가스를 매일 생산할 수 있어 천연가스를 상당히 절약하고 피나르우유의 지속가능성 목표에 크게 기여한다.

피나르 우유 이즈미르 공장장(Pinar Sut Izmir Plant Director)인 오렘 얄신(Mrs. Ozlem Yalcin)은 “피나르우유 공장에서 시행된 프로젝트 덕분에 이러한 전체론적 공장에서 얻은 수익은 미래에 대한 신뢰와 이전 지속가능성 정책의 이름으로 추가 단계를 수행한다”고 말했다.

베올리아워터테크롤로지스의 중동 책임자(CEO)인 티에리 프로먼트(Thierry Froment)는 “이 프로젝트는 생태계 변화를 위해 행동하고 이에 기여하는 베올리아의 목적을 완벽하게 보여준다”고 말했다.

프로먼트 CEO는 이어 “우리는 처리된 폐수의 재사용과 재생 가능한 청정 에너지 생산을 허용하는 첨단기술을 통해 피나르우유에 우리의 전문지식을 제공하여 지역 담수자원에 대한 부담과 설치의 환경 발자국(environmental footprin)을 줄이는 것을 자랑스럽게 생각한다”라고 강조했다.

피나르우유(Pinar Sut)는 1973년 튀르키에 이즈미르(Izmir)에서 설립되어 유제품을 생산한다. 이 회사는 이즈미르,  에스키세히르(Eskisehir) 및 산리우르파(sanliurfa)에 세 개의 생산 시설을 갖추고 있다.

Veolia Water Technologies reduces the carbon and water footprint of Pinar Sut at Izmir Plant thanks to biogas production

Veolia’s patented solutions for wastewater treatment and biogas production are now in service at Pınar Sut’s factory in lzmir, Turkey, allowing the company to meet new discharge legislation and achieve its environmental commitments, reducing carbon emissions by 17% and generating substantial savings on natural gas. 

Pinar Sut, one of the biggest dairy companies in Turkey producing mainly milk, yoghurt, cheese, fruit juices, ketchup and mayonnaise, has acted on its ambition for sustainable development with the recent wastewater treatment plant built by Veolia Water Technologies. 

The treated water is suitable for reuse with further tertiary treatment for certain applications in the factory such as flushing water, which contributes to the sustainability objectives of Pinar Sut.

Two Veolia-patented technologies are at the heart of the process that allows the production of valuable biogas. 

The wastewater first goes through a screen and a Idraflot® dissolved air flotation unit to retain fat, oil and grease (FOG) and suspended solids before entering the Biobed® EGSB granular biomass anaerobic treatment unit where over 80% of the chemical oxygen demand (COD) is removed. 

This treatment stage produces about 45% of the biogas generated at the plant. The FOG retained in the DAF is combined with other organic waste and sent to a Biobulk™ CSTR unit for purification and further biogas production.

Corporate carbon footprint calculations and reporting studies have been performed in Pinar Sut since 2011. Accordingly, the company continuously carries out activities aimed at reducing its carbon emissions by 15%. 

The 3,600 m3/day wastewater treatment plant allows a total daily production of 8,980 Nm3 of biogas which is used in the factory boilers, resulting in considerable savings on natural gas and making a significant contribution to Pinar Sut's sustainability targets.
