담수화 및 수처리, 물재이용시설 프로젝트 개발 및 운영에 대한 기여 인정받아

수처리 솔루션 분야의 선도적인 글로벌 공급업체인 IDE 테크놀로지(IDE Technologies)는  '2024 글로벌 워터 어워드(2024 Global Water Awards)'에서 '올해의 물기업'과 넷제로 카본 챔피언(Net Zero Carbon Champion),  두 부문의 최종 후보로 선정됐다.

IDE는 도시 및 산업 담수화, 수처리 및 물재이용 시설의 글로벌 프로젝트 개발 및 운영에 대한 기여와 모두에게 고품질의 깨끗한 물을 공급하려는 노력을 인정받았다.

IDE는 선도적인 해수 담수화 시설 개발을 넘어 미국, 칠레, 인도 및 멕시코 등의 기업 및 지자체를 위한 수처리 및 재이용 계약을 이행하는 사업으로 전환하면서 수명주기 비용과 처리시설의 탄소 발자국을 최소화했다. 이러한 전문성을 바탕으로 IDE는 '적응 패러다임의 최전선'에서 전 세계 물문제를 해결하는 데 상당한 기여를 했다. 글로벌 워터 어워드는 이러한 노력을 인정해 IDE를 '올해의 물기업' 후보로 선정했다. 

또한 IDE는 탈탄소화를 주도하고 해수 담수화 분야의 탄소 발자국을 구성하는 방식을 바꾸고 있으며, 자사의 LCA(Life Cycle Assessment)를 활용해 해수 담수화 시설의 탄소 발자국을 측정하고 정량화하는 접근법은 지속 가능한 해수 담수화의 산업 기준을 정의하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 하며, 해수 담수화 분야의 탄소중립에 기여하고 있다. 이러한 노력을 인정해  글로벌 워터 어워드는 IDE를 '넷제로 카본 챔피언' 후보로 선정했다.

IDE는 최신 주력 담수화 시설인 소렉2(Sorek II)에서 시설의 탄소 배출량을 30% 이상 최소화하는 한편, 업계에서 가장 낮은 가격 중 하나로 물을 공급해 비용 효율적인 담수화와 지속 가능성이 동시에 이뤄질 수 있음을 입증했다.

최초의 증기 구동 SWRO 플랜트인 소렉2는 담수화 효율성에 대한 새로운 기준을 정의하고 탄소 포집 및 활용과 함께 지속 가능한 담수화를 위한 새로운 표준을 제시한다. 에너지 손실을 없애고 연료에서 압력으로 에너지를 가장 효율적으로 전환하기 위해 전기가 아닌 증기로 구동되는 고압 펌프를 사용한 것과 IDE 시설 내 화학물질의 영향을 줄이려는 노력으로 경쟁력을 높이고 있다.

닐리 마이크(Nilly Maik) IDE 테크놀로지의 글로벌 마케팅 이사는 “글로벌 워터 어워드의 후보로 다시 인정받아 기쁘다”며 "우리는 지구상의 가장 가치 있는 자원인 물을 보호하고 보존하기 위해 공동으로 노력하고 있는 다른 후보자들과 함께 수처리 기술과 솔루션 부분에서 지속 가능하고 혁신적인 길을 걷고 있다"고 말했다.

투표는 2024년 3월 28일까지 글로벌 워터 서밋(Global Water Summit) 티켓 소지자와 GWI 출판물 구독자를 대상으로 진행된다. 각 부문의 수상자는 2024년 4월 16일 런던에서 열리는 글로벌 워터 어워드 시상식에서 발표될 예정이다.

In its latest flagship desalination plant, the Sorek II, IDE managed to minimize the plant’s carbon footprint by more than 30% while achieving one of the lowest water prices in the industry – proving that cost-effective desalination and sustainability can go hand-in-hand. The Sorek II, the first ever steam-driven SWRO plant, defines a new benchmark for desalination efficiency and, together with carbon-capture and utilization, presents a new standard for sustainable desalination. Employing high-pressure pumps driven by steam rather than electricity eliminates energy losses and allows for the most efficient conversion of energy from fuel to pressure. This, and IDE’s efforts to decrease the impact of chemicals within its plants, make the company a solid contender in this category.
