두산Enpure는 칠레 사막지역에 위치한 세계에서 가장 큰 규모 구리광산인 Escondida Water Supply 프로젝트의 담수화 플랜트 중, 전처리 설비 플랜트에 대한 설계, 구매, 공급계약을 1700만 달러에 체결했다.

총 44만6천 톤/일 규모의 전처리 프로젝트에 대한 설계, 공급 및 설치를 위한 것이며, 플랜트는 60개의 rubber-lining 처리된 압력탱크 구조의 DMF 필터 설비, 자동화된 메디아 공급·반출 설비 및 스카우링(scouring) 목적의 air-blower 장치로 구성된다.

이 Escondida 담수화 플랜트는 두산중공업이 주계약자인 Bechtel과의 시공 계약에 의해 플랜트 건설을 담당하며, RO에서 생산되는 최종 생산수는 22만 톤/일 규모로 남미에서 가장 큰 규모이다.

Doosan Enpure has secured a US$ 17 million contract to design, procure and supply the pretreatment plant for the desalination part of the Escondida Water Supply Project at the world's largest copper mine in Chile's Atacama desert.

From its Birmingham, UK, office Doosan Enpure will design, supply and install a 446,000 m³/d pretreatment plant, comprising sixty 12.5 x 4 m rubber-lined pressure dual-media filters, complete with automated media-reloading system and scouring air-blowers.

Avtar Jirh, managing director of Doosan Enpure said, "To secure this contract in only our first year shows that clients understand how our expertise in filtration can provide solutions to a wide range of industrial applications".

The Escondida seawater desalination plant, which is being built by Doosan Heavy Industries for main contractor Bechtel, will have a combined daily output of about 220,000 m³/d, making it the largest reverse-osmosis project to be constructed in the Latin American region.

The US$ 103 million project is part of an overall US$ 3.4 billion expansion of the mine, which contributes 4% of the country's GDP.
