Launchapad For Innovation은 DNA를 사용하여 멤브레인 홀을 만드는 세라믹 멤브레인 기술을 싱가포르 국제 Water Week에서 발표했다. 또한, 미국 오로노의 Cerahelix는 전통적인 세라믹 여과를 위해 나노 세라믹 코팅을 제공하는 특허받은 helix-NFM™ 공정을 개선하고 있다고 밝혔다.

DNA 가닥을 직선화해서 만든 세라믹 코팅은 나노 규모의 기공을 만들기 위해 제거되고 이 기술은 적은 압력과 불리한 조건에서 사용 할 수 있는 정화 솔루션이며 공정여과 기술을 위한 유망한 기술이라고 소개했다.

A ceramic membrane technology, which uses DNA to create the holes in the membrane, is to be one of the technologies presented at the Launchpad For Innovation on Day 1 of the Singapore International Water Week (1-5 June 2014).

Cerahelix Inc of Orono, Maine, USA, is promoting its patented helix-NFM™ process, which provides a nano-ceramic coating for conventional ceramic filters. The company will be exhibiting on 2-3 June at the show.

The ceramic coating is created with DNA strands aligned through it, which are then removed to create nano-scale pores. The technology can purify solutions at low pressure and in adverse conditions, making it a robust technology for the process filtration industry.

The coating will create pores of 1nm, taking ceramic membranes to the extreme of nanofiltration and into reverse osmosis territory. Cerahelix says its hydrophilic coating has high flux, broad chemical resistance and high operating temperatures, and is fouling resistant.

Cerahelix was awarded a US$1 million Phase II SBIR grant from the US Department of Energy. The award was based on product and market validation during DOE-funded Phase I research in 2012.
