남부호주 정부가 애들레이드 지역의 물 필요성을 충족하는 것을 돕기 위해 제안된 두 번째 담수화 플랜트에 대한 실행가능성을 검토하고 있다.

조사위원회는 담수화 플랜트의 건설을 포함, 애들레이드의 물 수요를 충족시키기 위한 방법에 대한 많은 옵션의 적합성을 조사하기 위해 설립됐다. 남부호주 정부는 이미 주의 첫 번째 담수화 플랜트를 짓는 프로젝트에 BHP Billiton사와 힘을 합친 바 있다.

 

 

 

The South Australian government is investigating the viability of a proposed second desalination plant to help supply Adelaide's water needs.

 

A working group has been established to investigate the suitability of a number of options for measures to meet Adelaide's water demands including construction of a desalination plant. The SA government is already working with BHP Billiton on building the state's first desalination plant.

 

"We believe that desalination is an option to be seriously considered," said water security minister Karlene Maywald. "But whatever it is this group recommends, it must be the best solution to meet the needs and circumstances Adelaide faces in this and possible future droughts," she added.

 

The working group will consider the possible size, location and cost of a desalination plant, but the minister has warned that any future construction work was still several years away.

 

The under-construction plant at Spencer Gulf will be used to supply water to the company's Olympic Dam uranium mine as well as supplement water supplies to upper Spencer Gulf towns and the Eyre Peninsula.
