호주 물 기업인 Valoriza Agua가 호주 서부 광산 마을인 Newman에 식수를 제공하는 하루 16.5Ml 규모의 수처리 플랜트에 대한 설계 및 시공 계약을 체결했다. 이 플랜트는 광산과 매우 가까운 곳에 위치한 식수 구멍으로부터 배출된 뒤섞인 물을 처리하기 위해 염수 역삼투 및 UV 처리 시스템을 포함하게 될 계획이다.

이 프로젝트는 서부 호주의 물 기업과 광산 기업인 BHP Billiton Iron Ore 간의 협약의 한 부분이다.

 

 

 

The Australian arm of water technology firm, Valoriza Agua, has won a design and construct contract to deliver a 16.5 Ml/d water treatment plant to provide drinking water for the Western Australian mining town, Newman. The plant will include brackish water reverse osmosis and an ultraviolet treatment system to treat a mix of flows from drinking water bore holes sited too close to mining activities.

 

The project is part of a collaboration between Western Australia's Water Corporation and mining giant BHP Billiton Iron Ore which owns Newman mine - a satellite operation to the vast Mount Whaleback pit. The new desalination facility is scheduled for operation by the end of 2015.

 

The initiative seeks to provide the people of Newman, 1,500 km northeast of Perth, with better quality drinking water quality. A government report has warned that because the town's water supply system is part of the mining activities, mining-related land use has been sited closer to the drinking water bore bores "than would otherwise be recommended."
