카타르 수전력공사(Kahramaa)이 하루 138ML의 담수를 생산할 예정의 5억 달러 규모 RO 담수화 플랜트를 구축할 예정이다. 까라마는 독립적 물 프로젝트 모델 하에 Ras Abu Fontas A3 프로젝트를 개발하기 위해 카타르 전력수력기업(QEWC)와의 협정에 서명했다. 이번 협정으로 지어질 플랜트는 카타르 최초의 대규모 RO 담수화 플랜트로, 카타르 지역 신문보도에 따르면 내년 3분기에 운영을 시작할 예정이다.

일본의 미쓰비시(Mitsubishi)가 플랜트의 설계, 장비 수입, 수립 준비를 책임질 계획이다. 카타르 시설은 물 생산을 끌어올릴 제안을 찾기 위해 나라 전역의 민간기업에 요청한 바 있다. 미쓰비시는 현재 Ras Abu Fontas A2 프로젝트의 164ML/d 규모 다단증발법을 거의 완공한 상태이다.

 

 

 

Qatar utility, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is set to establish a US$ 500-million, reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plant that will produce freshwater at 136 Ml/d.

 

Kahramaa signed an agreement with Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC) to develop the Ras Abu Fontas A3 project under an independent water project model. It will be the first large-scale, reverse osmosis desalination plant in the country. It is scheduled to begin operation in the third quarter of 2016, according to a local newspaper report.

 

Japan's industrial conglomerate, Mitsubishi Corporation, will be responsible for preparing the design, importing equipment and establishment of the plant.

 

The Qatari utility had invited independent companies in the country to come up with proposals to boost water production. It judged the proposal presented by QEWC as the most effective in terms of cost and technical means, and both sides agreed to set up the plant, said the report. Under the deal, Kahramaa will sign a strategic pact with QEWC for purchase of potable water from the company for 25 years.

 

Mitsubishi is currently nearing completion of the 164 Ml/d multi stage flash Ras Abu Fontas A2 project for QEWC which it started in January 2013.
