CH2M HILL partnership to deliver safe, clean water supply to Jaipur, India

CH2M HILL, a global full-service consulting, design, construction, and operations firm, in partnership with the Singapore Public Utilities Board (PUB) and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, has announced that it is providing technical and integrated water management leadership services to the Rajasthan state government through Public Health and Environment Department (PHED) for the city of Jaipur, India.

Jaipur has experienced a rapid level of urbanization and population growth similar to other parts of India. In recent years, the city has also become very reliant on groundwater resources due to pollution, urban encroachment and climate change, which have all impacted the quality and availability of its traditional surface water resources.

This over extraction and gradual pollution of groundwater has led to water resources becoming threatened. Water supply is expected to become much more scarce and less secure and reliable as quality is expected to degrade even further in the next decade, in a growing demand scenario.

To address these challenges, Jaipur has turned to industry experts and Singapore, which has successfully tackled similar water scarcity issues through its highly successful NEWater (recycle and reuse of treated wastewater) program and water portfolio diversification and integration strategy of Four National Taps.

Singapore has set a new benchmark in the successful implementation of projects for indirect potable and direct non-potable applications by close integration of advanced treatment technologies, public education and participation, water safety management, and public-private partnership investments.
