시민에게 고품질의 수돗물을 공급하려는 노력의 일환으로, 플로리다 번넬(Bunnell)시는 시민에게 연수(soft water)를 제공할 뿐만 아니라 소독 부산물을 준수한다는 목적으로 가지고 Ixom Watercare사의 실물크기 MICo 이온교환공정을 설치했다.

번넬시는 모든 EPA 식수안전규정을 충족하고자 노력했으나, 시민들은 몇 년 전 석회 연화(lime softening) 플랜트가 운영을 중지한 이래로 연수를 제공받지 못했다. 이에 플로리다주는 현재 번넬시가 2단계 소독부산물 규제를 충족하는 것을 돕기 위해 11 MIEX 시스템을 설치하고 있다.

 

 

 

In an effort to provide high-quality water to its citizens, the city of Bunnell, Fla., in 2014 installed the full-scale MICo® ion exchange process from Ixom Watercare Inc., a specialist in water treatment and chemical distribution, with the goal of ensuring compliance with disinfection by-products as well as providing its citizens with the soft water that they desired.

 

Bunnell is committed to meeting all EPA safe drinking water regulations, but the citizens have been without soft water since the lime softening plant was turned off several years ago. The state of Florida now utilizes 11 MIEX® systems to help communities become compliant with Stage 2 Disinfection By-Products Regulations.

 

However, until now, lime or membranes were used as a second step to produce soft water. This two-step process requires two times the capital and operational costs. In order to lower costs while providing high-quality drinking water, the city reached out to Ixom to develop a single-step process.

 

Ixom had been working on a process that would simultaneously soften and remove organics -- a common challenge with Florida groundwaters. A small-scale demonstration water treatment plant was commissioned by the City of Bunnell, during which the Ixom engineers demonstrated that they could utilize a newly developed MIEX Plus resin to meet the challenge.

 

In the Spring of 2012, Bunnell invited the community to the small-scale water treatment plant for a demonstration, water taste testing and approval of the overall water quality from this innovative process.
