[미국] 필라델피아 수자원부서, 납테스트 방법 갱신

보도 자료에 따르면, 필라델피아 수자원부서는 환경 보호 기관에서 발행하는 연합 지침을 준수하기 위하여 납을 시험하는 방법을 갱신할 예정이다.

90년도부터 사용된 이 부서의 현재 시험 방법은 EPA의 지침 두 개를 충족시키지 않는다. 그러나 필라델피아 잡지에 따르면 이번 여름 수자원부서는 현재의 모든 지침을 따르는 물 테스트를 시행할 방침이다.

새로운 지침은 수도사업이 납의 높은 수치를 놓칠 수 있기 때문에 그것을 제거하기 보다는 수도꼭지에 기폭장치를 부착해야 한다고 주장한다. EPA는 사전 세척이나 수도꼭지를 시험하기 전에 몇 분 동안 열어두는 것을 그만하기를 추천한다.

수자원부서는 지금까지 기폭 장치 제거와 사전 세척을 계속해왔다. 앞으로 수도사업은 현재의 모든 EPA 지침을 시험할 것이다.

PHILADELPHIA WATER DEPARTMENT TO UPDATE LEAD TESTING METHODS

The Philadelphia Water Department will update the way it tests for lead to comply with federal guidelines issued by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to a press release.

The department's current method of testing, which it has used since the 90s, does not meet two of the EPA's guidelines, but this summer, the Water Department will do a round of water testing following all the current guidelines, according to Philadelphia Magazine.

New guidelines insist that water utilities should keep aerators attached to faucets, rather than removing them because this could cause utilities to miss high levels of lead. The EPA reccomends against"pre-flushing," or letting the tap run for several minutes prior to testing as well.

The Water Department had continued to remove the aerators and suggest pre-flushing until now. Going forward, the utility will test to all current EPA guidelines.
