[베올리아] 맥캘란(Macallan) 증류소에 MBR 프로젝트 완료

베올리아워터(Veolia Water Technologies)사가 1억 파운드의 맥캘란(Macallan) 증류소와 모라이(Moray) 주의 크레이갤러키(Craigellachie) 방문자 센터에 250만 파운드의 폐수처리 공장 설치를 완료했다.

맥캘란(Macallan)의 오너인 Edrington은 세계적으로 유명한 맥캘란(Macallan)의 싱글몰트위스키(single malt whisky)의 글로벌 수요를 충족시키고자 대량 생산이 가능한 새로운 증류소를 주문했다.

환경 민감 지역인 스페이(Spey) 강으로의 배출물에 대해 스코틀랜드 환경청(Scottish Environment Protection Agency, SEPA)이 제시한 규제 사항을 충족시키기 위해, 증류소는 현장에 향상된 하수처리 공장이 필요했다.

베올리아(Veolia)는 이전에도 맥캘란(Macallan)의 폐수처리 공장을 작업한 바 있으며, 새로운 공장 설계 전에 폐수 특성 연구도 수행한 바 있다. 설치는 용존공기부상법(DAF)에 기반해 이뤄질 계획이다.

에드링턴(Edrington)의 공업 관리자인 George McKenzie는 “베올리아의 경험을 바탕으로 우리는 좋은 품질의 배출물을 기대한다”라며 “새로운 공장은 훨씬 향상된 수준의 자동화 능력을 갖춰 전문 인력의 투입을 감소시킬 것이다”라고 말했다.

Veolia in high spirits after completing MBR project for Macallan whisky distillery

Veolia Water Technologies has finished installing a ￡2.5 million wastewater treatment plant for the ￡100 million Macallan Distillery and visitor centre in Craigellachie, Moray.

The Macallan owners, Edrington, commissioned the new distillery to provide a much needed increase in volume production to meet the global demand for the world famous Macallan single malt whisky.

The distillery needed an enhanced wastewater plant on site to meet the SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) regulations for discharge into the environmentally sensitive River Spey.

Veolia had previously worked on Macallan’s previous wastewater treatment plant, plus a wastewater characterisation study prior to the design of the new plant.

The installation is based on Idraflot dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit followed by a Biosep membrane bioreactor (MBR).

Edrington’s UK Engineering Manager, George McKenzie, said: “Based on Veolia’s experience we expected to achieve a good quality discharge ? certainly well within the consent limits ? and that we have done. In addition the new plant has a much higher level of automation which means reduced operator involvement.”
