[싱가포르] 멤시프트 이노베이션 ‘TS-30 시스템’, 미국 특허 획득

멤시프트 이노베이션(Memsift Innovations)은 향상된 멤브레인 증류 시스템인 ‘TS-30 시스템’이 미국 특허청(USPTO)으로부터 특허(특허번호 : 11235284)를 획득했다고 지난 7일 밝혔다.

이 시스템은 단순 열역학(열 및 물질 전달)의 원리에 따라 작동하며 구동력은 멤브레인을 가로지르는 부분 증기압 구배이다.

‘TS-30 시스템’은 기존의 열 및 압력 구동 멤브레인 공정과 비교할 때 상대적으로 낮은 온도와 압력에서 작동하고 염도가 높은 하·폐수를 처리한다.

해당 기술의 이점은 제약, 화학·펄프 및 금속 마감·채광 산업을 위한 산업용 액체 폐기물 처리 및 자원 회수 분야에서 잘 입증됐다. 산업용 액체 폐기물 루프를 닫고 기존 증발기에 비해 80% 이상 저렴한 운영비용으로 최대 100%의 화학물질(금속 염, 산 및 기타 화합물)과 95% 이상의 물을 회수하는 데 도움이 된다. 또한 이 기술은 탄소 발자국을 최대 80%까지 줄인다.

멤시프트의 CEO인 안토니 프린스(J Antony Prince) 박사는 “이번 특허로 회사는 ‘TS-30 시스템’ 멤브레인 증류 시스템을 전통적인 막 증류 방법과 차별화하고 상업화하는 데 더욱 박차를 가할 것이다”고 말했다.

Memsift Innovations’ technology awarded US patent

The US Patent Office (USPTO) has granted Memsift Innovations US patent number 11235284 which covers the company’s compression and expansion based Improved Membrane Distillation process TS-30 and its various applications.

The system operates on the principle of simple thermodynamics (heat and mass transfer) and the driving force is the partial vapour pressure gradient across the membrane. The TS-30 system operates at relatively low temperatures and pressure when compared with the conventional thermal and pressure driven membrane process and handling high salinity wastewater.

The benefits of the technology have been well demonstrated for industrial liquid-waste treatment and resource recovery for pharmaceutical, chemical/pulp and metal finishing/mining industries. It helps to close the industrial liquid-waste loop and recover up to 100% chemicals (metal salts, acids and other chemical compounds) and >95% of water at >80% lower operating cost compared to traditional evaporators.  In addition, the technology also reduces the carbon footprint by up to 80%.

Dr J Antony Prince, CEO of Memsift Innovations, said: “The patent further strengthens our commercialization efforts and differentiates our TS-30 Improved Membrane Distillation system from traditional membrane distillation methods.”
