Norway city to improve wastewater treatment with innovative technology

Xylem Inc. (NYSE: XYL), a global water technology company aiming to solve challenging water issues, has been awarded a $1-million contract to supply wastewater treatment technology to two new plants in the city of Bergen in Norway.

Xylem will supply Flygt N3000 submersible pumps, Flygt 4600 series mixers, a Sanitaire Silver Series II aeration system, and high-efficiency screw blowers as part of a project to improve the quality of wastewater treatment in the city.

Purac, a specialist in contracting for the treatment of wastewater, process water and drinking water, is overseeing the development of the two new treatment facilities, which will have a combined capacity of 208,000 population equivalents.

"These new wastewater treatment facilities will have a direct and positive impact on the quality of wastewater in the Bergen region," said Fredrik Berglund, director of the project department at Purac.

Patrik Almlof, account manager for Xylem, added, "Our integrated solution, which includes a complete, turnkey aeration system, will improve wastewater quality while also decreasing biological build-up at the plants, which optimizes the life span of the facilities."

Construction is currently underway following delivery of products in September 2014. The new plants are due to begin operating in the fall of 2015.
