NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Amid questions surrounding Lead Free product quality, Watts Water Technologies, Inc., has outlined several of its quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures for Lead Free products.
The Watts Water QA/QC procedures are designed to safeguard product quality and ensure complete compliance with the new federal Lead Free law, which takes effect January 4, 2014. The new law mandates the wetted surface of Lead Free products contacted by consumable water contain less than 0.25 percent of lead by weight.

The company’s new 30,000-square-foot Lead Free foundry, currently under construction next to its existing foundry in Franklin, N.H., is slated to open this spring. The highly-automated facility, which includes state-of-the-art process controls and equipment, will manufacture Lead Free products exclusively. This eliminates any risk of cross contamination between standard and Lead Free materials.

NSF International to certify its Lead Free water safety and flow control product line for compliance.

Watts Water has done extensive research & development (R&D) into compliant Lead Free alloys for use in its new foundry. The company has also worked closely with the largest suppliers in the world to safeguard the quality of their raw materials. This collaboration includes working with suppliers to enhance manufacturing capabilities, scheduling & technology capabilities, and process controls.
