Potable water mixers receive certification for water storage tanks, reservoirs

BELLEVUE, WA,  July 22, 2013 -- Pulsair Systems, a supplier of potable water mixing systems, announced that the company's mixing systems was tested and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 and are now approved for installation in all sizes of potable water storage tanks and water reservoirs.

Pulsair's energy-efficient potable water mixing process helps water district operators completely mix water storage tanks in a matter of minutes to improve water quality, reduce thermal stratification, protect against total trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAA5s), and nitrification buildup to achieve uniform water temperature and reduce ice formation.

The Pulsair potable water mixing process works by intermittently releasing bursts of clean, filtered compressed air through a series of strategically placed stainless steel accumulator plates at the bottom of potable water storage tanks or reservoirs. The rising air bubbles create an immediate vertical circulation pattern in the tank allowing 100 percent of the water in the tank to be uniformly mixed in a matter of minutes. This fast and energy-efficient mixing process pushes and pulls water up into the tank and breaks up stagnant water layers to prevent the formation of thermoclines and helps reduce nitrification.

As more water utilities include active mixing in their potable water storage facilities to improve water quality, they are also concerned about quickly responding to unforeseen water quality issues that may arise. For example, water districts can no longer afford to wait up to a week for a million-gallon water tank to be completely turned over if an emergency disinfectant dosing and boosting is required. With the Pulsair mixing process, water utilities can completely turn over large water tanks, regardless of their size or shape, in a matter of minutes. Additionally, Pulsair can help water utilities keep capital, operational and maintenance expenses low by offering a lower cost active mixing system that requires low operational energy consumption and zero maintenance inside the water tank or reservoir.
