사우디 기반의 수처리 전문기업인 Advanced Water Technologies(AWT)가 스페인 대기업 Abengoa를 세계 최초 대양열 에너지 기반 대규모 담수화 플랜트 개발의 파트너로 임명했다.

이 플랜트는 하루 6만m³의 물을 생산, 사우디 아라비아 북동부 도시인 Al Khafji시에 제공할 예정이다. Abengoa는 이 프로젝트는 운영비를 확연히 절감하기 위해 담수화 플랜트에서 필요로 하는 전력을 공급하는 광전지 배열을 포함한다고 밝혔다.

 

 

 

Saudi-based water treatment specialist, Advanced Water Technologies (AWT) has appointed Spanish conglomerate, Abengoa, as its partner in the development of the world's first, large-scale desalination plant to be powered by solar energy.

 

The plant will produce water at 60,000 m³/d to supply Al Khafji City in North Eastern Saudi Arabia. Abengoa said the project incorporates a photovoltaic array capable of supplying the power required by the desalination plant to significantly reduce its operational costs.

 

The facility will also have a system to optimize power consumption and a pre-treatment phase to reduce the high level of salinity, the oils, and fats that are present in the region's seawater.

 

AWT is the commercial arm of the King Abdulaziz City Science and Technology in the Saudi capital, Riyahd, and is owned by Taqnia. The newly formed company said its mission was to bring affordable water solutions through innovation and sustainability. The deal is AWT's first move into desalinated water production. And it will increase Abengoa's global desalination capacity to nearly 1.5 million m³/d.
