샌디에고 카운티 상수도청(San Diego County Water Authority)의 분산시스템과 캘리포니아에 위치한 대규모의 칼스배드 담수화 플랜트를 연결하는 15km 길이의 파이프라인의 건설이 완료되었다. 10억 달러 규모의 하루 250 Ml 처리용량을 갖춘 칼스배드 담수화 플랜트는 가을 무렵에 작업을 시작할 것으로 예상되며, 현재 규제 당국의 승인을 보류 중이다.

이에 칼스배드의 부사장 Peter MacLaggan은 “건설 프로젝트는 최종 단계에 진입한 상태이다”라고 밝혔다.

Construction of a 15 km pipeline connecting California's near-complete giant Carlsbad desalination plant to the San Diego County Water Authority's distribution system is complete. Pending regulatory approval, the US$ 1 billion, 250 Ml/d Carlsbad facility is expected to start operation in the autumn.

"The entire construction project is entering its final phase," said vice president of Carlsbad's builder, Peter MacLaggan. Poseidon estimated the plant will deliver 7-10% of the region's water demand. Chairman of the water authority, Mark Weston, said: "We are particularly eager to start receiving the benefits of this project given the severe drought conditions faced statewide."
