캘리포니아 외부로의 확장에 있어 Ionex SG(이하 Ionex)사는 네바다(Nevada)주의 워터스타트(WaterStart)사와 전략적으로 협력한다고 밝혔다. 파트너십 조건 하에 Ionex사는 이온 교환수 처리 기술을 구분하는 통제·통신 소프트웨어 기술을 개발하기 위해 라스베가스(Las Vegas)에 혁신 해두보를 설치할 것이다. 투자는 시스템이 설치된 지역 공동체로부터 필수 구성품과 서비스를 얻는 Ionex사 현지화 전략의 핵심 구성요소다.

워터스타트는 네바다주의 수자원 사용과 보호를 극대화하는 독창적 기술을 만들어 낼 기폭제 역할을 할 것이다. Ionex사는 질산염, 6가 크로뮴, 과염소산염, 우라늄과 같은 오염물질을 식수로 처리하기 위한 차별화된 이온 교환수 기술을 공급한다. 영국에 기반을 둔 회사의 획기적 처리과정은 가장 낮은 비용으로 거의 0에 가까운 유해 폐기물이 되도록 오염물질을 제거할 것이다. Ionex사의 제품들은 영국뿐만 아니라 캘리포니아를 건너 다양한 수질 구역에 이미 다양한 형태로 잘 배치돼 있다.

워터스타트의 Nathan Allen 전무는 “네바다 주는 수자원으로 도박하지 않는다”라며 “우리 시장에 들어온 Ionex사는 지역의 가장 귀중한 자원을 보호하고 장기간 경제적 성장을 가능케 함으로써 우리의 수자원을 지속적으로 관리하는 데 도움을 줄 것이다”라고 말했다.

Chandler는 워터스타트와의 협력 구축에 영국 무역 투자청(UKTI)의 공이 크다고 했다. 덧붙여 “영국 무역 투자청(UKTI)의 목적은 영국의 혁신가들과 영국의 혁신에 도움을 줄 지역 파트너들을 연결하는 것이다. 이번이 그것의 확실한 사례다. 우리는 우리 기술의 채택을 가속화 할 WaterStart사 네트워크의 영향력을 기대한다. 그리고 고품질 식수가 네바다 주 지역에서 저비용으로 가능해지길 바란다”고 말했다. 

Ionex사의 시스템은 처리 과정에서 오염물질을 잡아내기 위해 강염기 음이온(SBA) 수지를 사용하는데, 이는 폐기물 처리 규모와 업무 비용을 기존의 이온 교환 시스템에 비해 1/10으로 줄인다. 오염 제거 과정 효율성 및 비용 측면에서의 극적 향상은 각 주와 지역 대행사들이 식수의 품질과 이용성 모두를 관리하는 데에 큰 도움이 될 것이다.

Ionex SG expands outside of California; partners with Nevada's WaterStart

In its first expansion outside California, Ionex SG (Ionex) has announced a strategic collaboration with WaterStart of Nevada. Under the terms of the partnership, Ionex will establish an innovation beachhead in Las Vegas to further develop the control and communications software technology that differentiates its ion exchange water treatment technology. The investment is a core component of Ionex's localization strategy which also includes sourcing essential parts and services from the communities where its systems are deployed.

WaterStart is Nevada's catalyst for inventive technologies that optimize the use and preservation of the State's water resources. Ionex supplies differentiated ion exchange technology that treats drinking water for contaminants like nitrates, hexavalent chromium, perchlorate and uranium. The UK-based company's breakthrough process removes the contaminants, with near-zero hazardous waste, and at operating costs that are the lowest in the industry. Ionex products are already well positioned in multi-size configurations at diverse water districts across Calif., as well as the UK.

The Ionex systems use a Strong Base Anion (SBA) resin to capture contaminants in a proprietary process that reduces waste-disposal volume and operational costs to one-tenth that of traditional ion exchange systems. This dramatic improvement in decontamination efficiency and cost provides significant benefits to state and local agencies -- especially those in drought-prone or arid regions -- tasked with managing the quality and availability of drinking water.
