[싱가포르] 새로운 담수처리공장으로 공업용수 활성화

Masagos Zulkifli 환경수자원부 장관은 지난 12일 싱가포르 국제물주간에서 싱가포르가 관련 산업 종사자들에게 하루 3천 만 갤런의 물을 제공하고자 새로운 담수처리공장을 지을 예정이라고 밝혔다.

싱가포르는 해수 담수화를 통해 얻는 물의 비율과 폐수 재이용률을 2060년까지 85%로 증가시킬 계획으로, 그때쯤이면 공업용수가 전체 물 수요량의 70%를 차지할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

에너지 절약을 위한 노력의 일환으로, 새 공장은 남서쪽 해안에 위치한 인공섬인 Jurong 섬에 있는 기존 발전소와 함께 배치될 예정이며, 큰 석유화학 공장도 갖게 된다.

이 시설은 이미 Tuas 지역에 자리한 2개의 공장과, 2017년 완공 준비에 있는 공장을 비롯, 2019년 들어설 Marina East 지역의 공장에 이어 싱가포르의 5번째 담수처리공장이 된다.

한편, 싱가포르는 현재 하루 당 4억3천 만 갤런에 해당하는 물 수요량을 충족시키고자 물의 55%를 말레이시아에서 수입하고 있다.

Singapore boosts industrial water supply with new desal plant

Singapore is to build a new desalination plant to supply industrial customers with 30 million gallons per day (136,000 m3/d) of water, minister for the environment and water resources, Masagos Zulkifli, announced at Singapore International Water Week, Tuesday 12 July, 2016.

Singapore wants to increase the proportion of water it gets from desalination and wastewater reuse from 45 per cent today, to 85 percent by 2060 -- by which time, industrial use is expected to account for 70 percent of water demand.

In a bid to save energy, the new plant will be co-located with an existing power plant on Jurong Island, an artificial island off the South west coast of Singapore, which has a large petrochemicals industry.

The facility will be Singapore's fifth desalination plant, adding to two existing plants in Tuas, to the West, one plant in Tuas due to complete in 2017, and a facility in Marina East slated to be built by 2019.

Singapore currently imports 55 percent of water from Malaysia, to meet demand of 430 million gallons per day (2 million m3/d).
