[캐나다] 쇼디에르 아팔라치 지역 수자원 인프라 개선에 자금 지원

캐나다와 퀘벡 당국은 쇼디에르 아팔라치(Chaudiere-Appalaches) 지역의 상하수도 시스템개선을 위한 프로젝트에 투자하고 있다. 정부 관계자는 청정수 및 폐수 기금(Canle Water and Wastewater Fund, 이하 CWWF)과 퀘벡 뉴 빌딩 캐나다 기금(New Building Canada Fund-Quebec), 소규모 공동체 기금(Small Communities Fund, NBCF-SCF)에 따라 이 지역 36개 수자원 프로젝트에 6천230만 달러 이상의 투자 계획을 발표했다.

이번 지원은 이 지역 30개 지방 자치 당국에 이루어져 주민들에게 고품질의 식수를 생산·유통시키고 폐수를 적절하게 처리 할 수 있도록 인프라를 유지·개발하는 데 기여한다. 캐나다 정부는 이 프로젝트에 3천730만 달러 이상을 투자하고 있으며 퀘벡 정부는 2천490만 달러를 제공하고 있다. 지자체는 나머지 자금을 제공한다.

2016년 7월 캐나다와 퀘벡 간의 양자 협정을 체결함으로써 CWWF의 프로젝트 승인이 이루어졌으며, 이로 인해 주 전역의 수자원 프로젝트에 자금을 지원할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 투자는 국가 경제 성장과 일자리 창출에도 도움이 될 것으로 전망된다.

Canada and Quebec fund 36 projects to improve water infrastructure in the Chaudiere-Appalaches region

The governments of Canada and Quebec are investing in projects to ensure that water and wastewater systems in the province are up to date and efficient and meet communities' increasing capacity needs. These investments will also help create jobs and grow the economy.

Government officials announced an investment of more than $62.3 million for 36 water projects in the Chaudiere-Appalaches region under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund (CWWF) and the New Building Canada Fund-Quebec, Small Communities Fund (NBCF-SCF).

"These vital investments in the Chaudiere-Appalaches region's water infrastructure reflect the Government of Canada's commitment to ensuring access to sustainable and adequate services for Canadians for years to come," Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Member of Parliament for Quebec, said. "We will continue working in close collaboration with our partners to ensure we make smart infrastructure investments that help protect the environment and preserve public health, while paving the way for economic development that creates good jobs and strengthens the middle class."

The financial support granted to 30 municipalities in the region will contribute to maintaining, renewing or developing their infrastructure to ensure the production and distribution of high quality drinking water for residents or the proper disposal and treatment of wastewater. The Government of Canada is investing more than $37.3 million in these projects and the Government of Quebec is providing more than $24.9 million for a total joint contribution of over $62.3 million. The municipalities will provide the remainder of the funding.

The approval of the projects under the CWWF was made possible by the signing of a bilateral agreement between Canada and Quebec in July 2016, which made funding available for water projects across the province.
