[미국] UDGE, 플린트 1만8천 가구 수도관 교체안 승인

연방 판사의 정책 승인으로 미시간주 플린트(Flint)에 거주하는 1만8천 가구의 수도관이 교체될 예정이다.

시는 연방정부와 주정부에 약 9천700만 달러의 비용을 들여 납과 아연 도금 강판 수도관을 교체할 책임이 있다. 지금까지 700가구 이상에서 파이프가 교체되었다.

AP통신은 천연자원보호위원회(Natural Resources Defense Council)와 미시간주 미국시민자유연합(American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan)이 플린트 주민들을 대표해 2016년에 시와 주를 고소했다고 보도했다. 데이비드 로손David Lawson) 미국 지방 법원 판사가 합의를 승인했다.

2020년 1월까지 총 1만8천 가구의 파이프 교체가 완료될 것으로 예상된다.

UDGE APPROVES REPAIRS TO LEAD SERVICE LINES IN 18,000 FLINT, MI, HOMES

Water lines at 18,000 homes in Flint, Michigan, will be replaced, thanks to a federal judge who approved the deal Tuesday.

The city will be responsible for replacing lead and galvanized-steel water service lines, at an estimated cost of $97 million cost to federal and state government. Pipes at more than 700 homes have been replaced so far.

The Associated Press reports that the Natural Resources Defense Council and American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan sued the city and the state in 2016, on behalf of Flint's residents. U.S. District Judge David Lawson approved the settlement Tuesday.

Total pipe replacement for 18,000 homes is expected to be completed by January 2020.
