[미국] 플린트 시의회, 디트로이트 지역 물 공급 계약 연장

미시건주 플린트(Flint) 시의회는 9월까지 오대호 수도국(Great Lakes Water Authority)과의 도시 수도 계약을 연장했다.

의회는 2014년 상수도 공급 전환으로 인하여 오점을 남긴 수자원 위기의 여파로 당국과 30년 계약을 체결하라는 압력 하에 단기 계약을 승인했다.

플린트는 돈을 절약하기 위해 디르로이트(Detroit) 지역의 물 시스템에서 플린트 강으로 전환하던 2014년, 국가 통제 아래에 있었다. 강물이 제대로 처리되지 않았고 납이 마을의 식수에서 침출되는 것을 야기했다. 플린트는 2015년 물 공급을 위해 오대호 수도국으로 재전환했다.

FLINT CITY COUNCIL EXTENDS CONTRACT FOR DETROIT-AREA WATER SUPPLY

The city council in Flint, Mich., has extended the city's water contract with the Great Lakes Water Authority through September, The Flint Journal reports.

The council approved the short-term contract Monday, under pressure to approve a 30-year contract with the authority in the aftermath of the lead-tainted water crisis that resulted from a switch in water supply 2014.

Flint was under state control in 2014 when it switched from the Detroit-area's water system to the Flint River to save money. The river water wasn't properly treated and caused lead to leach into the town's drinking water. Flint switched back to the Great Lakes Water Authority for water supply in 2015.
