[미국] 물 위원회, 글로벌 인증기구 SCS와 맞손
기업 물관리 합리적 평가 위한 체계 구축

 

 

증가하는 물문제와 지속가능성에 대한 요구가 증가함에 따라 물 위원회(The Water Council)는 기업의 물관리 성과 및 보고를 통해 문제를 해결하기 위해 미국 국제인증기구 ‘SCS 글로벌 서비스(SCS Global Services)’와 협력에 나선다고 지난 6일 밝혔다.

 

이번 두 기관의 파트너십은 기업이 기존 물관리를 넘어 전사적 과제와 기회를 해결할 수 있는 신뢰할 수 있고 검증된 물 관리를 할 수 있도록 지원하는 프로그램 등이 포함돼 있다.

전 세계적으로 기업에 가치사슬 단위의 물관련 문제를 해결하도록 요구하는 목소리가 커지고 있다. 이러한 요구에는 차질 없는 수도 공급, 기후 영향 및 측정 가능한 물관리 성과를 달성하기 위해 신뢰할 수 있고 구체적인 조치를 취해야 한다는 이해관계자들 목소리가 담겨있다.

 

기업이 온실 가스 감소 및 재활용 이니셔티브에 대처해 온 것과 동일하게 물관련 조치 및 우선순위를 정해야 한다는 기대를 포함해 환경‧사회‧거버넌스(ESG) 경영의 결과를 입증하도록 한 것이다.

 

딘 암하우스(Dean Amhaus)물 위원회 회장은 “SCS 글로벌 서비스가 환경, 지속가능성 성과에 대한 제3자 검증자로서 강력한 글로벌 명성을 갖고 있기 때문에 새로운 협력 발표와 함께 2022년을 시작하게 되어 매우 기쁘다”라는 소감을 전하며 “우리는 SCS와 몇 년 동안 비공식적으로 협력해왔으며 올해 초 새로운 물관리 프로그램을 출시를 앞두고 SCS를 중요한 파트너로 고려하고 있다”고 밝혔다.

 

한편, 물 산업 혁신을 추구하기 위해 설립된 세계적인 비영리기관인 물 위원회(The Water Council)는 2016년부터 2021년까지 북미 지역 물 관리 연합(Alliance for Water Stewardship)의 지역 파트너로 활동하며 물관리에 대한 비즈니스 사례를 구축하고 세계 최초의 물 전문가 자격 인증 프로그램을 만들었다.

THE WATER COUNCIL, SCS GLOBAL SERVICES PARTNER ON WATER STEWARDSHIP

 

As businesses across the world confront increasing water challenges and growing calls for tangible accomplishments on sustainability, The Water Council has partnered with SCS Global Services to meet this challenge by improving corporate water stewardship outcomes and reporting.

 

This new partnership will include development and rollout of programs to help companies move beyond traditional water management to credible and verified water stewardship that addresses enterprise-wide challenges and opportunities.

 

Multiple factors are influencing companies to address water-related challenges in their value chains. These challenges include supply disruptions, climate impacts and ever-increasing calls from stakeholders to take credible, concrete action to achieve measurable water stewardship outcomes. High on the list is the expanding call for companies to demonstrate tangible Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) results, including an expectation to prioritize water-related actions and commitments with the same vigor with which companies have been addressing greenhouse gas reduction and recycling initiatives.

 

The Water Council, an internationally acclaimed nonprofit organization dedicated to freshwater innovation, is a global leader in water stewardship with more than a decade of experience working with companies. It served as the regional partner for the Alliance for Water Stewardship in North America from 2016 to 2021, helping build the business case for water stewardship and creating the world’s first credentialing program for water professionals.
