혁신적인 가치 창출 폴리올레핀 솔루션을 제공하는 선도적인 석유화학회사인 이집트 보루쥬(Borouge)는 세계 최대의 하수처리장인 바르 알 바카르 하수처리장(Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Plant)의 인프라 솔루션을 공급하기 위해 대형 직경 파이프 및 피팅(fitting)의 선도적인 제조업체인 크라 미스르(Krah Misr)와 파트너 관계를 맺었다.

세계적인 규모의 이 플랜트는 이집트 북서쪽에 위치해 있으며, 압델 파타 알 시시(Abdel Fatah al-Sisi) 이집트 대통령이 취임 후 건설되었다.

총 공사비가 12억7천만 달러(EGP 200억 달러)를 투입된 이 하수처리장은 농경지를 관개하는 데 사용되는 이집트의 수자원을 늘리는 동시에 오염된 물이 농업용·산업용·도시용수로 유입될 위험을 줄인다.

보루쥬(Borouge)와 크라 미스르(Krah Misr)는 바르 알 바카르 하수처리장(Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Plant)에 나선형으로 감긴 폴리에틸렌 파이프(polyethylene pipe)를 공급하기 위해 강점을 활용하여 일일 500만 입방미터(㎥)의 처리 용량을 충족시켰다.

파이프에는 2.7km 길이의 1천600mm및 2천500mm 직경의 저압용 폴리에틸렌 파이프가 포함된다. 파이프는 ‘BorSafe™ HE3490-LS’ 기술을 사용하여 보루쥬에서 공급한 원자재를 사용하여 만들어졌다.

‘BorSafe™ HE3490-LS’는 전 세계 고객이 쉽게 사용할 수 있으며 민첩성이 뛰어나 큰 직경의 단단한 벽 압력 파이프 압출 또는 나선형으로 감긴 파이프에 사용된다.

보루게의 물 배관 응용 프로그램(water piping application)은 다른 자재에 비해 고객 및 최종 사용자의 설치비용, 운영비, 유지보수 비용을 크게 낮출 수 있다.

가장 중요한 것은 ‘BorSafe™ HE3490-LS’는 제조 시 훨씬 낮은 에너지 소비량을 필요로 한다. 이러한 요소들은 파이프의 제조 과정과 작동 수명에 발생하는 탄소 배출을 감소시킨다.‘BorSafe™ HE3490-LS’로 만든 파이프도 수명 주기가 끝나면 재활용할 수 있다.

보루쥬가 개발한 ‘BorSafe™ HE3490-LS’는 전 세계 고객이 쉽게 사용할 수 있으며 민첩성이

바르 알 바카르 하수처리장(Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Plant)에서 나온 처리수는 수에즈 운하(Suez Canal)를 따라 14만 헥타르(ha) 농지에 관개 및 이집트의 물부족 문제를  해결하는 데 사용된다.

Borouge supplies sustainable piping solutions for the world’s largest wastewater treatment plant

Borouge, a leading petrochemical company providing innovative, value-creating polyolefin solutions, has partnered with Krah Misr, a leading manufacturer of large diameter pipes and fittings, to supply infrastructure solutions for the world’s largest wastewater treatment plant, Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Plant. 

The world-scale plant is situated in the northwest of Egypt and was recently inaugurated by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

The USD 1.27 billion (EGP 20 billion) plant will boost Egypt’s water resources used to irrigate agricultural land, while decreasing the risk of contaminated water entering agricultural, industrial, and municipal water. 

Borouge and Krah Misr have harnessed their strengths to supply Bahr Al Baqar Wastewater Plant with spiral wound polyethylene pipes, meeting its five million cubic meter daily processing capacity needs.

The pipes include 2.7 kilometers of 1,600-millimeter (mm) and 2,500 mm diameter spiral wound polyethylene pipes for low-pressure applications. The pipes were made using raw materials supplied by Borouge, which employed BorSafe™ HE3490-LS technology ? capable of withstanding large diameter pressure, intake/outfall and multi-gravity applications.

BorSafe™ HE3490-LS is easily processed by its customers worldwide and is highly agile ? used either for solid-wall pressure pipe extrusion in large diameter or in spiral wound pipe configurations. 

Borouge’s water piping application significantly lowers installation costs, operational costs, and maintenance costs for its customers and end-users, as compared to other materials.

Most importantly, BorSafe™ HE3490-LS requires significantly lower energy consumption to be manufactured. These factors cut carbon emissions generated during the manufacturing process of the pipe and its operational lifespan. Pipes made of BorSafe™ HE3490-LS can also be recycled at the end of their lifecycle.
