스페인에 본사를 둔 다국적 기업인 이드리카(https://www.idrica.com/)는 2021년에는 국제 확장 전략에 따라 미국, 멕시코, 콜롬비아, 에콰도르, 페루, 카타르, 루마니아에 이미 설립되어 운영되고 있는 자회사 외에 홍콩, 칠레, 캐나다, 브라질, 사우디아라비아에 5개의 새로운 법인을 설립했다.

이 회사의 전략 계획에 따라 2021년에는 업계에서 디지털 트랜스포메이션 프로젝트(digital transformation projects)로 인한 매출액이 전년 대비 2배 증가했다. 이 기간 동안, 이드리카는 60개의 새로운 국제 프로젝트를 수행했다.

멕시코시티수도시스템(SAKMEX)의 디지털 전환 참여는 물론 손실 감소 서비스, 미국 휴스턴 하수망 기술 솔루션 개발 등이 포함됐다. 또한 유럽 유틸리티와의 첫 번째 프로젝트를 시작하였고 유럽 위원회(European Commission’s)의 ‘Horizon 2020’ 프로그램 프레임워크 내의 프로젝트에 참여했다.

스페인에서는 이드리카가 파트너사인 글로벌 옴니움(Global Omnium)을 통해 통합 물관리 플랫폼인 고아이구아(GoAigua)의 입지를 강화했다. 예를 들어, 고아이구아 사스 분석(GoAigua SARS Analytics) 솔루션 덕분에, 이드리카는 다양한 스페인 도시의 하수 시스템에서 ‘코로나19(Covid-19)’ 모니터링 프로그램의 실행을 지속적으로 지원해 왔다.

2021년에는 아구아스 빌바오 비즈카이아(CABB ;  Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia)의 새로운 관리 소프트웨어 구현, 스페인 세비야의 알자라페사(Aljarafesa)의 자산관리 시스템 구현 등 다수의 주요 프로젝트를 수주했다.

2021년 한 해 동안 5G-NR(New Radio) 통신기술을 적용해 식수 소비량을 원격 판독하는 선구적 시범사업에 참여했고, 이를 통해 물산업에 특화된 최초의 5G-NR 기기를 개발했다. 또 다른 혁신 파일럿은 멕시코 레온(SAPAL)의 식수 및 하수 시스템에 고아이구아를 배치한 것이다.

이드리카(Idrica)의 비즈니스 개발 담당 이사인 체마 네보트(Chema Nebot)에 따르면, 이러한 급속한 성장의 핵심은 “디지털 전환의 여정을 따라 습득한 경험과 노하우를 바탕으로 고객과의 관계 구축과 지속 가능한 디지털 솔루션을 제안하는 데 있다”고 말했다.

체마 네보트(Chema Nebot) 이사는 이어 “고아이구아(GoAigua)를 통해 오늘날 유틸리티 기업(공공수도사업자)이 직면한 과제를 해결하고, 보다 성숙된 디지털 전환 단계에서 새롭고 복잡한 사용 사례를 만들 수 있는 기반을 마련할 수 있다”라면서 “이를 위해 2021년 한 해 동안 기술직과 경영직 등 96명을 신규 채용해 200명 이상으로 인력을 늘렸다”고 덧붙였다.

이드리카는 올해에도 국제화 전략을 계속 이어갈 계획으로 고아이구아를 동일한 회사 내 서로 다른 디지털 혁신 프로젝트 간 연결고리로 역할을 하는 데 힘을 쏟을 예정이다. 주요 목표 중 하나는 분지, 식수, 위생 및 수처리, 농업용 솔루션을 포함한 통합 물순환 솔루션 범위를 확대하는 것이다.

따라서, 체마 네보트(Chema Nebot) 이사에 따르면, UN의 지속가능한 개발목표( Sustainable Development Goals)를 향해 나아가기 위해 수자원의 최적화와 지능적인 사용이 필수적인 시기에, 이드리카는 선도적인 스마트 물 회사 중 하나가 되는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

이를 위해 수도사업자들과 국제 파트너십을 지속적으로 구축하여 모든 지역에서 효율적인 물 관리의 핵심인 의사 결정에 유용한 정보로 데이터를 변환하는 것을 지원하는 견고한 비즈니스 비전을 제공할 계획이다.

Idrica strengthens its international expansion with the opening of five new subsidiaries in 2021

In 2021, Idrica opened five new subsidiaries, in Hong Kong, Chile, Canada, Brazil and Saudi Arabia, in addition to those already up and running in the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Qatar and Romania, in line with its international expansion strategy.

In just two years, the multinational headquartered in Spain has gained a foothold in 14 countries in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Latin America, providing technological solutions and services for the digital transformation of the integrated water cycle.

In accordance with the company’s strategic plan, in 2021, turnover from digital transformation projects in the industry doubled over the previous year. During this time, Idrica delivered 60 new international projects. 

These included participation in the digital transformation of the Mexico City Water System (SACMEX), as well as loss reduction services and the development of technological solutions for the wastewater network in Houston (USA) to prevent overflows. In addition, the company initiated its first project with a European utility and took part in a project within the framework of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program.

In Spain, Idrica has strengthened the positioning of GoAigua, its integrated water management platform, through its partner Global Omnium. For example, thanks to the GoAigua SARS Analytics solution, Idrica has continued to support the implementation of Covid-19 monitoring programs in wastewater systems in various Spanish cities. 

In 2021, the company was awarded a number of major projects, such as the implementation of new management software at the Consorcio de Aguas Bilbao Bizkaia (CABB) and the implementation of an asset management system in Aljarafesa (Seville).

 

Over the course of 2021, the company participated in a pioneering pilot project aimed at applying 5G-NR technology to remotely read drinking water consumption, which led to the development of the first 5G-NR device specifically for the water industry. Another innovation pilot of note is the deployment of GoAigua in the Drinking Water and Wastewater System in Leon (SAPAL, Mexico).

According to Idrica’s Business Development Director, Chema Nebot, the key to this rapid growth lies in establishing “relationships with clients based on the experience and know-how we have acquired along the road to digital transformation, as well as proposing sustainable digital solutions. 

Through GoAigua, we can address the challenges facing utilities today, and also lay the foundations for the creation of new, more complex use cases in more mature stages of digital transformation.” In order to deploy this strategy, 96 new employees were hired during 2021, including technical and management profiles, thus increasing its workforce to over 200 people.

Idrica plans to continue with its internationalization strategy this year, focusing its efforts on positioning GoAigua as a link between the different digital transformation projects within the same company. Another of the main objectives is to expand the range of integrated water cycle solutions including solutions for basins, drinking water, sanitation and water treatment, and agriculture. 

Thus, according to Chema Nebot, Idrica aims to become one of the leading smart water companies, at a time when the optimization and intelligent use of water resources are essential to move towards the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

To this end, the company continues to forge international partnerships with water utilities, providing them with a solid business vision that supports the conversion of data into useful information for decision-making, which is key to efficient water management in any territory.
