뉴저지 아메리칸 워터(New Jersey American Water) 사는 최근 구식으로 전락한 포터스빌(Pottersville) 하수처리 플랜트를 현대적이고 혁신적인 설비로 전환하겠다는 계획을 발표하였다. 본 회사는 DEP가 발행한 경영 협약 명령에 따라 이전 소유자로부터 해당 플랜트를 인수하였다. 본 회사가 확장형 3백만 달러 규모의 재건 사업을 완료한 이후, DEP는 경영 협약 사항이 준수되었다고 언급했다. 오는 12일부터 플랜트는 기준에 부합하는 시설로 전환될 예정이다.

새로운 포터스빌 플랜트는 새로운 적외선 살균 유닛 2개기, 폐기물 제거 기능을 개선하는 원형 정화기, 수처리 변동을 방지하는 트레시 트랩(Trash Trap), 새로운 공기 후처리 탱크, 전력난에 대비한 새로운 발전기, 미세 처리를 위한 공기 정화기, 플랜트 내 토양의 태양광 노출을 위한 침략성 식물 제거, 뉴저지 Audubon 사와 USF&W 사의 자원봉사자들과 직원들의 600 토종 식물 모종 계획 등을 포함하고 있다.

VOORHEES, NJ, Aug. 9, 2013 -- New Jersey American Water recently transformed the antiquated Pottersville Sewage Treatment Plant in Pottersville, N.J., into a modern and innovative facility. The company took over the plant from its former owners as part of an administrative consent order issued by the DEP. Based on the extensive $3 million rebuild completed by the company, the DEP lifted its consent order, saying that all its terms had been met. Today, the plant can be called compliant and much more.

The new Pottersville plant includes: Two new ultraviolet (UV) disinfection units; a disk filtration system to improve waste removal; a trash trap to prevent treatment upsets; a new post-aeration tank; a new generator for improved reliability during power outages; new aerators to improve microbial treatment; removal of invasive vegetation around the plant, allowing the soils at the site to be exposed to the sun for the first time in years; and the planting of more than 600 native plant species at the site by employee volunteers and staff from NJ Audubon and USF&W.

"The combination of our acquisition and reconstruction of a failed waste water system, and our habitat restoration program is an environmental success story," said Suzanne Chiavari, vice president of Engineering at New Jersey American Water. "It's another positive example of where we make a difference, in New Jersey."

The United State Fish and Wildlife calls it "a great example of how a corporate landowner can take the initiative."

The New Jersey Audubon Association calls it a demonstration of commitment to restoring New Jersey's habitat.

The DEP gave the new plant its Environmental Quality Award for outstanding work to enhance the quality of the environment in New Jersey, and going "beyond compliance."

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association called the company's effort "a wonderful story that deserves to be told."
