Demand For Water Treatment Equipment Expected To Grow Worldwide

New research predicts growth in the water industry over the next three years.

One study, titled "World Water Treatment Equipment" by the industry market research firm Freedonia Group, said that "world demand for water treatment equipment is expected to grow almost seven percent per year through 2017."

That includes such areas as the Asia/Pacific, Eastern Europe, and Africa/Middle East regions.

They "are expected to show strong growth, with gains supported by improved access to treated drinking water and sanitation facilities, particularly through greater use of filtration and membrane systems."

Less dramatic gains are predicted in mature markets, including North America and Western Europe.

Still, demand for membrane systems and disinfection equipment will be supported by "continued efforts to reduce chemical use by replacing chlorine and other chemicals with water treatment equipment, and in the US by an ongoing rebound in production output after the 2007-2009 recession," the report said.

Another study, "Water Utilities: Global Industry Almanac" published by Market Publishers Inc., projected "a compound annual growth rate of 4.3 percent for the overall water utilities market, to reach a value of $891 billion by the end of 2017," according to a summary in a Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers Association (WWEMA) newsletter.

According to the report, WWEMA said, "the major factors affecting this growth are ongoing global economic improvements, particularly in emerging economies, as well as rising environmental concerns provoked by water pollution from agricultural and industrial activities."
