NC water treatment plant installs major reverse osmosis system

Earlier this year, Biwater, a global provider of large-scale water and wastewater solutions, started engineering and fabrication work to support Dixon Water Treatment Plant improvement works carried out by Onslow Water and Sewer Authority (ONWASA) near the city of Jacksonville, N.C.

This month, Biwater Engineers completed the delivery of a custom three-million-gallon-per-day (MGD) reverse osmosis (RO) plant, inclusive of pre-treatment cartridge filtration, chemical dosing, membrane cleaning system, plant instrumentation, remote IO stations, PLC, and SCADA.
Reverse osmosis trains being delivered to site

With this speedy delivery, residents in Jacksonville will soon be benefiting from increased potable water production capacity, combined with specialized treatment and removal of silica and organics from the influent. The advanced system will treat unusable brackish well water and provide drinking water that meets Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards.

The custom RO trains and accompanying equipment for this project were designed and assembled in Biwater's factory in California, tested and then shipped semi-assembled to the site, which aided the overall speed of delivery and subsequent supervision of installation.

Jerry Orlanes, Field Service Specialist, testing equipment before shipping semi-assembled to site Contracted under T.A. Loving Company to deliver an appropriate technological solution to increase capacity and improve water quality, Biwater anticipates successfully commissioning the facility in the coming months. Kimley-Horn is ONWASA's Design Engineer on the project.
