삼성 그룹의 모기업인 삼성C&T사가 Calgon Carbin(CCC)사와 720만 파운드의 Filtrasorb® 입상활성탄(GAC)를 독도 식수 공장에 공급하는 계약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 이　계약의 가치는 공개하지 않았다.

독도 공장은 서울 성동구를 포함한 7개 구의 1백만 명 인구에게 하루 1억8천800만 갤런의 음용수를 제공한다. GAC는 생산된 물의 맛과 냄새를 제거하기 위해 새로 지어진 탄소 필터에 설치될 계획이다. 탄소 운반은 올해 12월에 시작해 내년 2분기에 끝날 것으로 기대된다.

Calgon사는 식수처리 산업에서 엄격한 전문성을 충족한 GAC를 생산해내는 진보한 제조공정 덕분에 프로젝트에 선정됐다.

 

 

 

Samsung C&T Corporation, a parent company of Samsung Group, has awarded Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC) a contract to supply 7.2 million pounds of Filtrasorb® granular activated carbon (GAC) to the Dduk-Do Municipal Drinking Water (Dduk-Do) Plant in Seoul City, South Korea. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

 

The Dduk-Do Plant provides 198 million gallons per day (MGD) of potable water to approximately one million residents in seven districts, including SeongDong-Gu in the Seoul metropolitan area of South Korea. The GAC will be installed in newly constructed carbon filters to remove taste and odor from the plant's source water. Delivery of the carbon is expected to begin in December of 2014 and be completed in the second quarter of 2015.

 

Calgon was selected for the project because of its advanced manufacturing process, which produces GAC that meets the most stringent specifications in the drinking water treatment industry; its rigorous product quality assurance procedure; and the outstanding performance of the company's products that have been installed in other drinking water treatment plants in South Korea.

 

Earlier this year, it was selected to provide 5.6 million pounds of GAC to treat drinking water at the Gu Eui Municipal Drinking Water Plant, which is also located in Seoul City. "Calgon Carbon has been supplying GAC to drinking water treatment plants in South Korea since 2000, and in June we completed delivery of more than five million of pounds of GAC to the Gu Eui plant under a contract awarded to us in February," said Randy Dearth, Calgon chairman and CEO.
