미국 배관기술자협회(ASPE)와 수질협회(WQA)가 미국 국가표준으로 2014 WQA·ASPE·ANSI S-802 기준을 공식적으로 발표했다. WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802는 사업체 대 사업체 표준으로, 식수 필터 시스템에 사용되는 생 활성탄에 중점을 둔다.

이 표준은 공급원료 자원, 활성탄 생산, 폐기 후 관리의 세 가지 핵심 속성을 기반으로 활성탄 매개 생산품의 지속가능성을 평가한다.

 

 

 

The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) and the Water Quality Association (WQA) have officially announced that the standard WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802 (2014): Sustainable Activated Carbon Media for Drinking Water Treatment has been recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard.

 

WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802 is a business-to-business standard that focuses on raw activated carbon used in drinking water filter systems. It evaluates the sustainability of activated carbon media products based on three core attributes -- feedstock sourcing, activated carbon production and end-of-life management -- as well as four bonus attributes -- reactivated carbon, certification under other eco-labeling programs, lifecycle assessment, and innovation.

 

Products are scored on a point-allocation system that is based on lifecycle screening, hot-spot analysis and manufacturer-identified issues. Products that are certified as meeting the requirements of WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802 are eligible to bear the WQA Sustainability Mark in recognition of passing the rigorous assessment of sustainable production practices that must be adopted by the manufacturer of these products.

 

WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-802 is a companion standard to WQA/ASPE/ANSI S-803 (2014): Sustainable Drinking Water Treatment Systems (see "American National Standard released for sustainable drinking water treatment systems"). Manufacturers interested in certifying drinking water treatment unit (DWTU) systems to S-803 are awarded credit for sourcing activated carbon certified to S-802. Certification to this standard helps a company establish market preferability with their customers who are interested in purchasing more environmentally friendly DWTU systems.

 

WQA collaborated with ASPE in 2013 to take its sustainability standards through the formal public review process necessary for a voluntary public standard to be approved by ANSI. In addition to S-803 and S-802, WQA and ASPE are also developing WQA/ASPE S-801: Sustainable Management, among other standards.
