CANADA AND QUEBEC SUPPORT MAJOR WATER INFRASTRUCTURE WORK IN DANVILLE

The governments of Canada and Quebec are safeguarding public health and helping protect the province's waterways by investing in projects that will help ensure water and wastewater systems in the province are up to date and efficient. The Town of Danville will soon have access to renewed drinking water and sewer systems thanks to funding from the governments of Canada and Quebec.

Government officials announced financial support for the renewal of water and wastewater mains along multiple streets in Danville. The costs, estimated at more than $985,000, will be covered by the federal Gas Tax Fund and Quebec's contribution. The Town of Danville has received a total contribution of over $1.3 million through this Fund for infrastructure projects, including the most recent funding.

"By supporting projects like these, our government is demonstrating its commitment to making lasting improvements to public and community infrastructure," said Karine Vallieres, MNA for Richmond and Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier (youth). "This investment will allow the City of Danville -- a tourist city well-known for its exceptional heritage and for the importance it places on culture -- to provide residents with reliable infrastructure that will help ensure it can offer citizens durable public services, while also contributing to the City's objective of attracting and retaining citizens."

The federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) provides more than $2 billion each year to Canadian municipalities, which represents a long-term, ongoing, predictable and indexed source of funding. Funds are paid out twice a year in July and November.

As part of the GTF Administrative Agreement, the Government of Canada's contribution represents 70.8% of eligible costs, while Quebec's contribution is 29.2%.

Quebec's 2017?2027 Infrastructure Plan calls for $7 billion in investments in municipal infrastructure under the Quebec Department of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy. When combined with contributions from the Government of Canada and municipalities, this means $15 billion will be invested in Quebec's municipal infrastructure over the next 10 years.
