[호주] 워터코퍼레이션, 머치슨 지역 수질개선 추진
큐 및 샌드스톤 지역 수질개선 위한 고도 수처리 설비 완공

호주 머치슨(Murchison) 지역에 2개의 고도 수처리 플랜트가 완공됐다. 큐(Cue) 및 샌드스톤(Sandstone) 주민들은 이제 더 나은 수질의 물을 공급받게 된다.

워터 코퍼레이션(Water Corporation)은 맥고완(McGowan) 정부의 지역 수질을 개선하기 위한 약 2천400만 달러 프로그램의 일환으로 큐 및 샌드스톤 지역에 새로운 수처리 플랜트를 완공했다고 지난 12월 10일 밝혔다. 이들 플랜트에는 지하수에서 자연적으로 발생하는 질산염과 염분을 줄이기 위해 EDR(electrodialysis reversal)이라는 공정이 적용됐다.

특히 큐 지역에 들어서는 플랜트는 재생에너지로 구동되며 탄소 배출량을 줄이고 운영비용을 낮추며 네트워크 정전 중에 사이트를 운영할 수 있다.

공장의 시운전을 위해 큐와 샌드스톤은 워터 코퍼레이션의 2021∼2022 Waterwise Towns 프로그램에도 추가됐다.

한편, 맥고완 정부는 2017년 중반부터 중서부의 새로운 물 인프라에 1억5천200만 달러를 투자했다. 향후 4년 동안 지역 물 프로젝트에 8천700만 달러가 새로 투입된다.

McGowan Government delivering better quality water to Murchison region

Water Minister Dave Kelly today announced completion of another two advanced water treatment plants in the Murchison region, with residents in Cue and Sandstone now benefiting from improved water quality.

As part of the McGowan Government's $24 million program to improve water quality in the region, the new plants were delivered by Water Corporation and use a process called electrodialysis reversal (EDR) to reduce naturally occurring nitrates and salinity in groundwater.

These new plants follow the successful commissioning of a similar plant in Mount Magnet in late 2020, with another plant in Meekatharra expected to be online by early 2022.

EDR plants already operating in the northern Goldfields communities of Yalgoo and Wiluna have helped reduce nitrate levels in drinking water by as much as 75 per cent.

Cue's plant, like those in Mount Magnet and Meekatharra, is powered by renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, lowering operating costs, and allowing the site to operate during network power outages.

To mark the plant's commissioning, Cue and Sandstone have also been added to Water Corporation's 2021-22 Waterwise Towns program. Cue residents can now exchange old, inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under a program called Showerhead Swap, with Sandstone's free plumbing service due to launch soon. 

Mount Magnet joined the program last year while Meekatharra will be added once their EDR plant is complete in early 2022. To learn more visit https://www.watercorporation.com.au/waterwiseoffers

Since mid-2017, the McGowan Government has invested $152 million in new water infrastructure in the Mid-West. A further $87 million has been allocated to water projects across the region over the next four years.
