[로스앤젤레스] 위생부, 폐수처리로 국립청정수관리소협회(NACWA)서 인정

지난 11일 로스앤젤레스 위생부는  콜로라도(Colorado) 주 덴버(Denver)에서 열린 하계 컨퍼른스에서 국립청정수관리소협회(National Association of Clean Water Agencies, 이하 NACWA)로부터 각 관할구별 폐수처리시설 운영에 대한 우수성을 인정받았다.

NACWA는 환경 정책이나 수질 및 생태계 보호 문제와 관련한 인기 있는 기술자원 분야에 있어 국내에서 인정받는 기관이다. 1970년에 설립된 NACWA는 모든 수질 보호 측면에 관여하며, 폐수 처리 시설에 대한 우수성을 인정하기 위해 국가적오염제거시스템(National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, NPDES)이 허가하는 요구사항에 따라 최고 성과 프로그램상을 수여하고 있다.

최고 성과 프로그램상은 △플래티넘 상(5년 이상 요구사항 100% 충족) △금상(1년 내 위반 없음) △은상(1년 내 다섯 번 미만 위반) 세 개 부문으로 구성된다.

이번 시상에서는 로스앤젤레스 위생부와 카슨(Carson) 협동수질오염관리공장(이하 JWPCP)이 각각 로스코요테즈(Los Coyotes) 및 소거스(Saugus) 지역의 물재생 공장과 최대 규모의 처리 시설로 최고 성과 프로그램상(플래티넘상)을 수상했다. 이번 수상으로 JWPCP는 수상자 명단에 14번째 이름을 올리게 됐으며, 9년 연속으로 플래티넘상을 수상하는 영광을 안게 됐다.

랭카스터(Lancaster)와 팜데일(Palmdale), 포모나(Pomona) 물재생 공장이 각각 금상을 수상했으며, 라 캐나다(La Canada), 롱비치(Long Beach), 산호세크릭(San Jose Creek), (동서부) 발렌시아 그리고 휘티어내로스(Whittier Narrow) 물재생 공장이 은상을 받았다.

Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County recognized by NACWA for wastewater treatment

The Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County (Sanitation Districts) were recognized by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) at their Summer Conference in Denver, Colorado on July 11, 2016 for excellence in wastewater treatment operations at each of the Districts' wastewater treatment facilities.

NACWA is a nationally-recognized leader in environmental policy and a sought-after technical resource on water quality and ecosystem protection issues. Established in 1970, NACWA is involved in all facets of water quality protection. NACWA's Peak Performance Awards Program recognizes wastewater facilities for excellence in wastewater treatment as measured by their compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements.

The Peak Performance Awards Program consists of three categories -- Platinum awards recognize 100% compliance with permits over a consecutive five-year period. Gold Awards are presented to facilities with no permit violations in calendar year. Silver Awards are presented to facilities with no more than five violations in a calendar year.

The Sanitation Districts earned the Peak Performance Platinum Award for the Los Coyotes and Saugus Water Reclamation Plants, and for their largest treatment plant, The Joint Water Pollution Control Plant (JWPCP), in Carson. This is the 14th year in a row that the JWPCP has posted perfect compliance record and the 9th consecutive year it has received the Platinum Award.

The Lancaster, Palmdale, and Pomona Water Reclamation Plants each earned the Gold Award and the La Canada, Long Beach, San Jose Creek, (West and East), Valencia, and Whittier Narrows Water Reclamation Plants all earned the Silver Award.

The Sanitation Districts provide this service each day, every day at a cost that is among the lowest of comparable systems throughout the country.
